2nd Gen Non-Engine/Transmission Salt water damage??

Hey guys, I went to check out a 2002 dually the other day and I was wondering about what salt water may do to the internals of the rear axle? And anything else that may have been exposed to it. Other then the obvious salt water damage that can occur, should I just steer away from this truck or am I over reacting to potential problems that may lie beneath? Brakes? Trans? Lug nuts and studs? Alot of duallys are used mainly to tow boats here, which means alot of reversing down the boat ramp and into the wonderful pacific ocean and all it's saltiness. Most fishermen will hose down there trucks prior to leaving the harbors, BUT, that doesn't get rid of all the salt water. What do you guys think?

Look elsewhere. That will be a constant, frustrating and never ending battle. I live on the ocean and you would not believe the corrosion I have had to deal with. I am constantly spraying everything with WD-40, oil and grease to stop the onslaught. From the top of the engine to the frame.



I have had to scrape and re-paint the entire frame and suspension components 2 times already.



Dodge DID NOT go to any lenghts in the corrosion prevention department. The newer trucks are much better in this department.



Check the welds on the bottom of the cab, the frame and the bottom of the doors. If anything is even starting to rust..... Walk away!



I have stayed on top of mine. But, I have seen some friends that havent. It can get really bad, really quick.

Hey thanks for the input, yah I am leary about this truck, only reason I went to look at it is because we rarely see any 2nd gen CTDs anywhere for sale nowadays. If it's still at the dealer I will check out the under carriage better. Thanks!
