So I am finally coming up on 100kmi. Don't laugh, I've got a company truck, and quite frankly, enjoy spending my boss' money on gas.

So my question is: where should I plan on taking 'Olga' for her 100kmi service, which I assume is going to involve a valve adjustment.

Redwood City Dodge (about a mile from my house) closed down years ago and haven't had much luck with the Cummins/Dodge dealer team and would rather take it to a more, ahem, experienced team.

I'm going to do all the pedestrian stuff like fluid (including transmission, and diffs), but there is a long list of stuff on that 100kmi check list.

I live in San Carlos almost midway between San Francisco and San Jose.

Thanks for your help!!

Cummins tune up

I would take it to Cummins West in San Leandro. They've always done well by me, but I don't know if they do transmission and other work.

So, I know about Cummins west. The only problem is they aren't open on Saturdays the last time I've checked, which has been a couple of years. The only real question I have is has anyone on TDR used them for services other than engine related?

thanks again.

I use LeftCoastDiesel in Concord. The also have a shop in Livermore. No way I'm going to the dealer...

Bought my 2000 Dakota at Redwood City Dodge right before the dotcom implosion.

I think the owner's manual on the '01 I had with 24 valve engine suggested a valve clearance check at 150k miles not 100k.

A friend of mine who is a former Dodge dealership mechanic and has maintained my trucks for ten or eleven years now has always discouraged me from wasting time and money on valve clearance checks. He explains that the adjustments required are generally not worth doing.

Many of the items you are considering are probably prescribed by a dealership service department with selling labor hours and parts as their primary goal.

I would second that. But what needs to be done at 100k? As Harvey said, 150k for valve adjustment. Hmmmm? I'm at 154k and haven't looked at my valves yet either.
