Hopefully I can get some help here. I have moved to the country and have lost my fast internet. We tried a wireless set up and it worked for a while but the thing is jammed up way too much(too many users).

We have looked at Satallite(USB) but there seems to be a problem networking our 5 computers together(everyone has there own). We are looking at trying to use another computer as a router.

Has anyone out there tried this? Is there a good software for doing this???

Thanks Dee

Dee. . give Mike Crossley a shout... he does these things as a business. . I'm on my lap top and don't have his addy here. . it's 0n my desk 'puter

I send ya an e-mail later with his tele # and e addy

I dont think you will have any problem if you use a computer as a router/host. I believe it is just the nature of the connection that means you cant just get a hub and forget it.

Are you saying a Gateway Router doesn't work? Win98 has a program called Internet connection sharing. Not sure about WinXP.

I'm using a linksys wireless broadband router and it works great. I've got two computers and my Xbox all hooked in. One computer has a printer on it and I can print to it from the other computer.

I had AOL's version of a sat dish at one time, It used a dial up line for outgoing, and the sat dish for the downlink. The only way to share system was to use internet connection sharing.

Now if your sat has its own modem for both uplink and downlink, you should be able to use a computer as a router, using NAT so every pc looks like it has the same address to the WAN side.

Or use a linksys type router (which gives you some added security of a firewall). I love my wireless linksys hooked up to the cable. I can use my laptop laying in bed:D

THANKS YOU ALL. It's great to be able to come on here and get help on almost anything.

Thanks again!!!!!
