I have been comparing slide-ins for some time, really leaning toward a Bigfoot or Northern Lite but they are tough to learn about here in Texas. Never seem to see any of 'em.

Yesterday though, in Alpine TX, I saw an older Ford F-350 DRW for sale with a 1997 Bigfoot 2500. It was right across the road from the RV park on the west side of town. The truck appeared to have been used pretty thoroughly, but other than discoloration from road dust and such the Bigfoot looked to be in surprisingly good shape compared to a similar vintage Lance. The sign said the owner wanted $12,000 for the camper, don't know if this is a reasonable price or not. In any event it is a chance to look at one for those in the area.

Oh yeah, it was the basement model and looked to have a generator installed if that was indeed an exhaust pipe I saw poking out.

A person can buy a good travel trailer cheaper than that. If they wanted a cabover it sounds like a good one though. Alpine is a long way out there though.

Sounds like a great deal to me but you really need to go over the options list. I paid a lot more for mine although I have a slightly larger model.

Our Bigfoot 3000 has been fantastic! It has double-pane glass and aluminum frame contruction and is rated to -40 degrees. The full "RV bathroom" is pushed forward so that you have 3 sides with windows in the dining area. I would say that the only downside of this slide-in is the weight (4000+ when loaded).

Camper and Truck

Tom that truck looks like mine except i got a 2500. I sure wished they weren't so heavy cause i'd like one on my truck... As for the Big Foot,i have looked at them where they are made in BC and i think they are the best. Guess you and I will have to go the 3500 series if we want one of those. I am not aware that Big Foot makes one for the 2500 series? Do They? Did i understand right, that the one in Alpine TX was for a 2500 series Truck??? Bill

I've got a camper basically identical to Dresslered's, just a little newer. I'm completely happy with with 3 exceptions. 1, I really wish I could have had a thermostacically controlled air conditioner (one that will turn itself off and on automatically instead of the fan running all the time) 2, I'm dissapointed that the fantastic fan they install is the cheapest unit offered, no thermostat at all, just on and off. Lance (which in my opinion is almost as good as a Bigfoot) offers the better air conditioner and the higher model fantastic fan. Both of these are pretty trivial but they really are the only dislikes I have. The third thing is the weight. Mine weighs right at 4500 pounds. That was moderately equipped for traveling. Naturally this will put any pickup over it's gross weight rating, not that I really care.

They both have their strong points, the Lance is lighter, cheaper, and has less wind resistance. Plus it has the better air conditioner:rolleyes:

The Bigfoot is better insulated (will not freeze up down to 40 below) Has more headroom in the bedroom area, and a bigger bathroom. But you pay for it. A top of the line Bigfoot is about 32 grand where as a top Lance is about 26 grand. All in all I'm very happy with my Bigfoot and I've had no problems whatsoever.

I have the 2500 series (25c8. 11) model for the 3/4 ton shortbed trucks and I love it. When I was looking at the Lance and Bigfoot I think the Bigfoot was hands down the winner:

1: Lighter than the Lance

2: Better insulated

3: 2 piece construction

My truck doesn't even really know its on there. Handling is just fine and power is always under the hood. I also paid less for my Bigfoot than what Lance wanted for theirs with like equipment.
