Sawtooth Camping

Last year we stayed at Lake Alturas and I really loved it.

Does anyone recommend any other RUSTIC camps around the same area that I can get a 30ft Fifth wheel full of trail bikes into?

A stream or Lake for fishing would be really nice but we are really there to ride the trails of Idaho on our puttputts.

Yes We are there to ride the trails and eat the fish.

The 30ft 5th wheel fits in between the trees very nicely as long as the branches arn't too awfull low.

We like the rustic ( non commercial ) camps best because they have less people and we can make it for a week without hookups.

Tell me some of your favorite Sawtooth campsites. .

I promise I will make my kids pick up every piece of paper with in 100 yards of our camp. .

Lake Alturas was awesome last years so I am guessing Petit lake is only a few miles down the road from there ?

Going to spend 5 days around that area this time so I might do alturas petit and sawtooth lakes.



Keep the info coming if you think of another spot we should see while we are in Idaho.

Do you know anything about Fairfield ??.

I am told there is some good trail riding and fishing at a place called skeleton creek west of fairfield. .

Tell me some of your favorite Sawtooth campsites.

Actually, I've only been over to the Sawtoots once. Very beautiful place... ... . But I got so POed that they (perhaps I should say we?) wanted 5 bucks just to park at a trailhead. So, I just went for a day hike and then went over to Mt. Borah instead. Since its the highest in ID it was a must do. Starr (my Border Collie) and I hiked it the next day in the rain turning to snow. We were the only party to top out that day.



Went back last year so Rocs Ayn, my other Border Collie, could say she had top out on Borah too.



It's a popular hike, but if you get an early start you can beat the crowds and heat. The Lost River Range is dry and rugged. I think it a pretty neat place.

Your tuffer than I am.

I don't mind climbing trails but I have been doing in on motorcycles for 30 years.

If I tried actually Hiking on foot I would blow a lung or get a fever blister or something bad.

I am going to take my son and ride evry trail I can find that is posted legal for OHV.

Then I will get back to my 30ft 5th wheel , shower up and make a drink And a steak.

Thats the only ruffin it I know.
