CFAR,

Other than the dealers DRB III I don't know of any. The High idle option can be enabled as I have done this personally... ... . (I work for Warnock Dodge in East Hanover NJ)... ..... Let me also say I am in truck sales... ... (not a tech). The person (tech) must look in the engine section then go to miscellaneous... ... . enable the three cylinder idle function and you're done... ... ... both high idle and three cylinder function work on mine... ..... I just did this last week. Hope this helps.

Eric

Eshaw,

What is the three cylinder idle function? I checked into a high idle for my '01 2500 and everywhere I went people looked at me funny. I finally found a "Throttle Commander". It cost too much money and is either on or off, it is not adjustable.

Brad

The 3 cylinder function is something in the engine management firmware. When it is cold enough and you are idling it sets the idle up to around 1200RPMs and alternately fires the cylinders. This higher RPM and few cylinders firing (increasing the load) keeps the cylinder head temp up high enough to keep things from fowling. I probably did a poor job summarizing this. You can find a couple of other places that it is explained in more detail by using search.

One other thing. I needed a scan tool a while ago. The one that the dealers use is only used by Dodge and can be purchased by anyone for the price of $6000 US. :--)

The straight off the shelf OBDII scanners will not allow you into all the functions that the Dodge scanner has. The OBDII scanner will pretty much just display scan codes and that is it.
