Anyone know about radio scanners?

What features are must-have?

... . nice to have?

... . etc. .

------------------
2500qc, no leather or abs
1500 bigfoot, no auto waterheater or microwave.

Mark, your grill guard... does it mount to the frame? Can you e-mail me with the particulars?

Thanks
SCOTT

Just a quick note on scanners. Here in Michigan it is illegal to have one in your vehicle unless you are a licensed ham radio operator. The law was passed about 4-5 years ago.

The type of scanner you're going to need depends on where you live entirely these days because of the trunk systems. If you live in an area that has a trunked radio system, you need to purchase the Uniden BC-235xlt or the BC-245xlt.

The BC-235xlt tracks only Motorola type I and II 800mhz systems. This is the older version of the trunktracker.

The BC-245xlt tracks all Motorola and GE systems. EDACS is growing around the country so it's probably more appropriate to get the BC-245xlt. If you travel, you definately want it. This machine also does service scan so you can hit the button and it will scan all of the police, fire, etc. I love mine and couldn't live without it. Most all the systems I listen to except Raleigh are trunked, many of them the Ericsson/GE EDACS type systems. If you live in a small town with no trunked system, and you don't plan to travel, you won't need such a radio.

The best way to get the radio is direct mail. You can get them for about $250. 00 now. They were selling new for $400. 00 not too long ago but the market wouldn't bear it.

They don't make a mobile version of this scanner yet but I think they will soon. They DO make a mobile version of the BC-235 but again, you need to make sure the systems you're going to listen to are Motorola.

Email me if you have more questions, I would be glad to try and answer them for you. I can give you more information if you want.
