I'm trying to mount my CB overhead, but I'm scared to drill into the headliner for fear of drilling all the way through to the outside. Has anyone seen an overhead mounting bracket? Also, has anyone drilled into the headliner without any problems?

Can't help you on the bracket, but I drilled through the headliner above the drivers door to mount brackets for a Maglight. It is mounted using sheet metal screws. The roof is double walled and the brackets have remained secure.

If you remove your temp/compass overhead light thingie, you can take a looksee at what is above the headliner, probably you can look all the way across.

I know above the overhead there is an extra brace.

HOLD IT!! The roof is NOT double walled. It is single wall, with braces every so often. I dropped my headliner to install a CB antenna, (just rear corner, drivers side), and could see most of the roof structure. If you have a service manual, it has pictures of said construction, but no dimentions as to where the braces are. If you have a "travel center", or not, there are wires up there as well. Procede with caution.

Took my headliner out just last week to install my airhorns (thats right!! on the roof). The roof IS double layers. If you use short sheet metal screws you'll be OK. There's about 1/8-1/4" of space depending on where you drill. I Know-I drilled 10 holes installing my Hadley "Ambassadors". Good lock

AZCUMMINS,

I mounted a 3/4" NMO antenna mount in the middle of my roof (quad cab) awhile back. The area where I mounted WAS NOT double wall. There was the roof and then the insulation/padding only. No second metal interior of the roof. I would pull the insulation and look before drilling to insure that you don't go through the roof.

I installed the cab clearance light kit on my Y2K. Single wall construction except for where the braces are.

Be careful
