My 2001. 5 is in need of new schocks. I searched some older posts and got some ideas.

My son has Bilstiens on his truck and they are stiff compared to the stock schocks. My wife even noticed the stiffer ride of my sons truck.

So please give me your input on what you use and the ride you get from them.

Thanks in advance

Chuck E.

I use Bilsteins and love them. They give a lot of confidence in driving when you are using the truck, i. e. towing and loaded.

I guess it would help if I spelled shocks correctly !!!!!

Are there any brands that offer a softer ride????

Bilstein will custom work shocks for you. That is also the added bonus of Bilsteins. Once you buy them you don't have to replace them. They can be sent off to Bilstein to be repaired/rebuilt.

Personally, I bought a Les Schwab brand shock. it's a local tire company that really has some great products. I got a monotube design shock, and they ride stiff, but I want that considering I pull a 12k# 5th wheel. You don't want the rear end floundering when towing something that heavy. I've heard great things about the Bilsteins. My Les Schwab's have a lifetime warranty, so if they puke, they're replaced, free of charge.

Years ago, I had a toyota pickup with the Rancho RS9000's with the air adjust system. They absolutely sucked. I ended up having all four replaced under warranty within 8-9 months. What's funny is that I never hammered the truck off road. I will never buy Rancho products again.

The Les Schwab shocks are Bilstiens. I was going to buy the Bilstiens from Genos but I was talking to a friend of mine that works at the store and he said their shocks are just like the factory schocks that Chevy trucks use. Chevys ride on the same Bilstiens that Genos sells. Les Schwab has free replacement /Bilstien has free rebuild. I took Les Scwab and they are working great

That's very good to know KevinSmith. I really like the RMX's that I put on. With my 5th wheel fully loaded, the truck doesn't flounder at all. If I hit a few road waves, it stays in control.

Yeah, the RS9000's weren't air, they just had the air adjust system. The adjustment system worked good, but the shocks were crap.
