Schwitzer Turbo

I recently bought a brand new in the box schwitzer turbo. I am awaiting shippment right now. I bought it because it was really really cheap. The guy didn't know what he had. The problem i'm not sure what I have either. Its a Schwitzer M/N 3LM39. Thats really all I know. I have searched the internet but found no information on it. What i really want to know is what for motor is goes on and some specs on the turbo.

i was going to say the one thats on my deuce engine is made by the same company and was going to say thats a military turbo. Could be anything from a 2 1/2 deuce to a 10 tonner. . I have the LDT turbo engine what they call a whistler mine is the C turbo. . they also make a D turbo. .

Well that was fun. . thanks for that site. Wonder what Cummins engine was used in F-4 support equipment?

Found a couple of serviceable chargers in the Cummins box here

This so called 3LM turbo you bought is one tough little charger. i ran one on my pulling tractor for 2 years, no problems. at one point i pushed 700 cc's of fuel threw it and it didn't pop. if i was you i'd get the turbo freshened up with new bearings and stuff. god knows how long its been without oil.

So what would it take for it to be used on our trucks? Anyone know if it would be worth the conversion or a dog not to tangle with?

as i recall it has the same flange that our trucks use, but i could be wrong.

Most of the Cummins engines are the NHC 250 thats mostly in the 5 ton and up trucks but the Multifuel which i have they will also fit in the 5 ton and those used are the LDS 465 engines. . there are several differnt configurations

For prime movers like 20 ton trucks your looking at a 300 hp V8 Cummins and even though i have not seen one of those engines the articles i did read said the engine bay is nothing but engine with just enough room to shut the hood...

There are several places you can check for turbo kits to redo the one you have. Memphis equipment(TN)(PA), Saturn surplus(PA) are 2 i would start with they do have web sites so just do a search and you will find them.

I just got an email from the guy I bought it from. He said he bought if from a fellow that got if from a military auction. The turbo is brand new never used in the box plugged and all. It should show up next week. Question, what is this turbo worth?

Awful small compressor housing, and old technology= not worth much- that is if you were planning on using it on a 5. 9 Cummins... .
