I got a used SRAIII of EBay back in May this year. The filter was described as "needing a cleaning" and in which case it may possibly need. Knowing a slightly dirty filter is more efficiant I decided to try it the way it is. If you hold the filter up to the sun you can still see plenty of light through it.

Today I decided I've been putting this off for way too long and put it in.

From what I've heard I was told that 1. ) I'll hear alot more turbo song from it AND 2. ) I should feel a little crispier response.

Well, I hear no extra turbo song, which is fine, but the 600 is cranking out some extra HP, seems like alot more.

Take in mind I'm a total diesel newb and I'm still learning how spool it up for a nice launch.

I took it for a small 5 mile test drive, stopped at a stop sign and turned onto a nice stretch of road. From a 10 mph roll I stabbed the skinny and the CTD launched awesome. It really surprised me.

Just a couple of questions here.

Should I expect a nice HP increase from a cold air kit?

Would it be wise to run a prefilter on it?

Is this the same response you get when you open a hole or two in the stock air box?

Now I can't believe I waited this long to swap out the old air box. :-laf

Yes, and no. Your peak HP numbers are only up a bit. However, the RA3 allows the turbo to spool up much quicker than the stock air box. With the turbo providing boost quicker, the ECM can dump in fuel quicker. The net result is more power, quicker.

I had similar results on my '03 when I was just running an RA3 - spool-up was quicker, and the truck was more driveable.

As for a pre-filter - I wouldn't worry about it much unless you operate in a dusty environment.
