it makes a metallic noise after about 2 minutes of warming up from dead cold 30deg. the engine starts fine lopes a little idles up automatically then makes a scraping sound for about 30 seconds. i think it's the clutch fan but it doesn't sound good at all! after warm everything sounds normal.

Well, you're probably safe as far as oil circulation goes. The stock oil pressure gauge may be fake, but at least it does tell you if you've got at least 6 psi. And if the scraping is as serious as you make it sound, then the engine would have seized long ago if it were an oil circulation problem.

Having said that, it could be power steering pump. Is it a squeel? Fords are notorious for noisy power steering pumps, especially when cold. Could be an idler wheel. Could be fan clutch, as you say. Any chance you could pop the hood and listen carefully with a stethoscope?

You know if you take it to the dealer they will be "unable to replicate".

My truck seems to do similar - after driving about 1/8 mile down my driveway the fan seems to engage. It doesn't really make a noise abnormal to a fan. It seems to do it worse the colder it is, but it does it in the Summer too. It is my understanding that fan clutches work on a fluid inside the clutch assembly, so I am assuming that the fluid may be a little thick and causing a partial engagement of the fan until it warms to a operating temp(the clutch that is).
