Lift pump & injection pump replaced on 98. 5 truck w/about 155 K miles. About 4 months ago, I noticed that it was becoming more difficult to start & then 2 wks ago, my daughter couldn't start the truck when she got out of class.

The new lift & injection pumps installed cost me about $2K. Does this sound about right? I believe they said that the inj. pump was about 1400-1500 & the lift pump was about 150 & then there was labor.

Guess the next step is to install a fuel pressure gauge on the output of the lift pump. Any other gauge locations I should consider?

How long does an injection pump last if I keep a good lift pump ahead of it?

Sorry to hear that. Price sounds fair. As far as longevity, its kinda a crap shoot. It mightout last the truck, and then again, it might not. Either way, there is one thing you can count on, it will fail again... someday.

Sounds like you got a pretty good price. Labor for the inj. pump alone is $400. I had mine replaced last week @ 64k and the total was $1758. Inj. pump only.

My fuel pressure has always been good, so like jtisdale said you never know when they're going to go belly up.

I run a triple piller pod with fuel pressure boost, egt. Then a trans temp on the collum. If nothing else your daughter will look cool drivring it.

tdr thread to discussion forum-Fuel pressure gauge/sender

Check out this link which takes you to the other discussion forum. There you can see my installation under the hood for the sender for the VP44. Use the special banjo fitting from Geno's Garage.com and if you need the stainless braided/teflon hose assembly and bulkhead fitting, I can help you with that. Geno's provided me with the mounting plate for my gauge that went in the hole where some folks have switches for the heated seats, but mine was a cubbyhole in the dash under the airbag switch.

Here's Geno's info:

BF-LT - Individual Tapped Banjo Bolt (tapped; requires 2 gaskets): $7. 00 each,

The gauge is ID #: WM-FPKT-15-B

Price: $69. 00

If you need help, feel free to message me. Good luck!

IMHO the best place to monitor Lift Pump pressure is, right at the inlet to the VP44. With your sender or your diesel line ( mechanical gauge ) mounted right there, you will always know exactly what pressure is actually reaching the injection pump.
