this just started the other day.

when i turn the truck off i get this screeching noise. MORE THAN THE NORMAL CHIRP and when in idle there is a squeaking noise. but that goes away when i add some RPM's.

i have changed the belt tensioner, due to that spueaking noise every time i got off the freeway.

has a new belt

a new alternator

and the water pump seems to be fine.

the only thing i can figure is the fan clutch. but it works fine, and dosnt seem to have any play init.

i figure this screeching noise at shut down, and the squeaking noise at idle are the same problem. and the change of the tensioner wasnt te problem.

so any ideas. it getting worse, and i figure it will brake soon enough to figure out what it is, but i would like to fix it before that

thanks, Bob

Oh the joy.

It's probably just the normal squalk @ shut-down :) They won't always do that. Depends on engine compartment temps too not just the brand of belt/ condition of the tensioner etc.

Just drive the thing and hammer on down. :)

screeching noise at shut down

Solution... . don't shut down

Many of these chirp on shutdown... it's the sudden stop of the engine (due to the high compression) and the belt wants to keep moving.

Something about the laws of inertia or science or some malarky like that. ;)

chirp

its more than the normal chirp!! i have had the chirp sence i have owned it for the last three years. its a bonafide screeching sound more than the chirp.

and the squeeking noise at idle, while its in drive, or reverse.

Get a bottle of soap and water. Spray some on the belt and see if it changes or go's away. Its probibly just the belt. I get it all the time kinda makes a jinggly loose sound like a nut of bolt is loose or you have some spair change in your pocket.

soapy water

LEggers,

I just looked at your rig. Super!! Two thumbs up!! Oo. Oo.

Thanks tugboatphil... . Did you get that name for a reason? I work for a company in Washington called Washington Chain And Supply... We supply allot of rigging all over the world.

I remember you very well from this board. I just read about your little issue with a plastic wheel chock. . Hope its getting fixed up and all is good. The guy I bought my truck from has the exact same truck as you same color and all. The truck I bought and own now was his brothers that passed away a couple years ago.

Enough thread jacking here thanks for the tip of the hat.
