I was trying to change to a different thermocouple last night, a when I was removeing the 1/4in. pipe coupleing from the manifold it galled and stripped all the threads from the manifold. So now I am left with a screwed up exhaust manifold. If anyone has a good idea how to repair this, let me know.

Can you get an adapter for the next size up from 1/4" to 1/4", drill and tap for that put it in and then put the probe in the adapter? Home Depot may have it in the plumbing department, iron should be fine for it.

drill it out and re-tap it with a 3/8" pipe thread and bush it down to 1/4", or see if you can find a keensert repair piece so you can drill it out and tap with a straight thread and insert the keensert for a 1/4"npt.

a helicoil might work [if you can find 1/4"npt] but the manifold isn't very thick, so the helicoil would only grab like 2-3 threads

I'm pretty sure a helicoil won't work ( to thin ). I thought about going to a 3/8, but if I use a 3/8 to 1/4 adapter, my probe won't be inside the manifold.

Nick: I don't find a Keensert for pipe thread.

If you use a 3/8-1/4 npt bushing you will be fine. It will add very little to the height of the t/couple

Go to mcmaster.com

You want part number 4443K732

3/8" reduced to 1/4" bushing

316 Stainless Steel

$2. 34 each.

You should also get a nice 3/8" pipe tap, and make sure you have anti-seize.

Good luck,

Peter

I know this is a super old thread, but I just did the same thing today changing from a diPricol thermocouple to an ISSPRO one. I'm very glad that I found this information! The part is now $5. 51.

I ordered the part and should have noticed, but the part listed is for a 1/4 NPT. I needed 1/8 NPT. I found one locally, but the bushing is long enough that it will encompass the end of the pyro.

Any suggestions for what I should do? If I put the drive pressure gauge in the existing hole that is too large for the pyro, where should I tap a new hole for the pyro?

Thanks!
