Anybody ever get a SCRREEEPP! noise when you shut your truck off? Checked the belt tension, no checks or glazing(9,500 mi. ). Does it when it's hot or cold, whether the AC's been on or off. ~~Jim. :)

yep, its the compression of the engine stopping abruptly before the "Acessories" can stop. . hence the squeak. Do a search on Goodyear Gatorback belt and you'll pull up alot of threads including part numbers.

That "Screep" would be the motor stopping faster than the Driven accessories can I. E a/c compressor / Power steering pump / alternator. The compression Halts the motor quickly and the belt Screeches to a halt.

JGabl, first of all welcome to the TDR. Most of our trucks will do what I think of as a "chirp" on shut down. Mine is especially noticable when the A/C compressor is engaged. It is due to serpentine belt slippage as the engine stops. Not sure if this is what your noise is, but if it is, it's nothing to worry about.

SCRREEEPP

I knew I came to the right place... The noise I'm trying to describe is EXACTLY what you guys are. I had a hunch it was something along that line. It makes sense now. Thanks, Jim. :D

SCRREEEPP

By the way... Tool Man- Awsome dually. Like the attention to detail. Great grill inserts...

Kat Diesel- Great logo(Scat Pack)!

Amazing! My '95 did not screech when I shut it down. In preparation for my '01. 5 I went ahead and ordered the Gatorback belt and no screech. I now have a spare under the seat. :)

Most 5-Speed transmissions don't "chirp"

But Most autotrannies Chirp.

None of the Diesels "we" have owned have ever cjirped,, and they have been all 5-Speeds,, (a '92, a '96, and my 98. 5)

But, We have a friend who has had a '96, '97 and an '01 they have been automatics, and have all chirped loudly.

I have only heard my '93 chirp once in the last five months. It is an automatic. I am glad to know it is something I can expect to hear and not worry about.

Solution is Goodyear belt

My auto makes the same chirp when turned off. If you do a search on the board/archives for chirp, you will see postings discussing this problem. The solution that seems to fix it is replacing the belt with a Goodyear Gatorback belt, one of the posts had the part number, but I didn't bookmark it or write it down.

I plan to have the belt changed when I go in for my first service.
