I used the term "Bares" to refer to their collective talent, as well as how much dumb luck they have left in the cupboard, Jim.
And the coaches, much less the players, were not even born in 1941, so what does that have to do with anything? If you're placing your faith in that trivia, you are
really reaching...
If it makes you feel better, almost every team I hoped, often against my better judgement, would win in the playoffs has lost. Now I don't care and can be very objective based on recent games and what the 4 teams have shown their abilities and attitudes to be, which is all that matters. And I stick by my prediction of the Pack vs. Jets for the superbowl. They are peaking and playing and being coached at a whole new level than they showed for most of the season and have not been merely lucky in these playoffs.
Rodgers looks as good right now as any QB to ever have played the game, and that's saying something. He is surgical in his precision and as cool as ice under pressure. And his receivers are catching those lightning bolts, something the losers in the playoff games this year cannot claim. I've never seen such poor receiving by some of the defeated teams. And they have discovered a running game that lets their passing game work.
But it is defense that wins championships, and Green Bay has a monster, like the '85 Bears did, though I doubt I'll ever see another as good as those Bears were. Matthews is an animal, and he has plenty of help along with a terrific secondary behind them despite the huge number of injuries and the depths to which they had to dig on their backup roster this season.
Chicago's trophy case will remain "Bare" this year.
