Search causing IE5/win2k to terminate??

Slow motion server?

ssssssssssssssslllllllllllllllllloooooooooooooowwwwwwwwwwwww

This is probably a win2000 / IE5 problem, but.....

Can anyone shed any light on why my IE browser is terminating after I do a big search against the TDR??

Example:
Search all areas for last 90 days for the string 'aircraft landing light'. I am looking for the parts list I saw posted earlier.

I get 3 hits against this example, but before I get the nice list of threads, my computer will terminate IE and then restart the desktop (not a reboot, just the toolbar and desktop get refreshed/restarted) .
==================
A very nasty bug, but I am not ready to blame the TDR.

Can anyone repeat this test using Win2000 and IE5?

Thank you,
David

Well, that builds a case that the problem is at my end.

You technical types at the TDR, can you tell me what the search is doing? Is it eating up local memory or doing fancy java stuff or what? I'd like to troubleshoot my PC but don't know how the search works.

The search engine isn't doing anything on your end except displaying HTML pages. The search is conducted entirely on the server side. I can't duplicate the problem on my end with with Win 2000 and IE 5. Try Netscape, I'm willing to bet the problem disappears!

I have Win2K and IE5. 5

I tried the search and it worked just fine.
Make sure you are running IE 5. 5 Go to Windows Updates and make sure you have all of the most current updates.

I am beginning to think it is an interaction between my firewall (zonealarm), IE, and win2K. Thanks for the feedback.

I went over to another partition and ran Win98SE which had no problems with the TDR.

I loaded VMware from win2K and ran a virtual 98 box with no problems either.

This is not a TDR problem but I will leave this open for a bit in case others see the problem.

David_VT, since you metioned it - I've been having probs w/Compuserve 6. 0 and it "drops" me quite a bit lately. Never thought about it but the dropping has increased and I did load ZoneAlarm - could be we both have a "bad" ZoneAlarm load. I think I'll "dump" the Alarm for awhile and see if things improve (course this is a time project and there never is enuff time to do it!). Different programs/setting/setup but possible link is the ZoneAlarm.

I have been hunting this problem down as I need the PC for my primary income. I got an email back from an IBM researcher who swears it is ZoneAlarm and he has moved to another product.

Unfortunatly ZoneAlarm is one of the best 'free' firewalls out there.

I have just heard from ZoneAlarm and they sent me a very detailed email about how to clear the truevector service's database. I've done it, now we wait... .
