Chat Idea

The search feature really sucks!!!!!! Can't use three letter words like oil, air, a/c and I'm sure there are a few others I'n not thinking of right now. Whats up with this??? Just wondering if I am doing something wrong. Trying to look at past posts so I don't ask the same dumb questions that have been answered before.

The new search is far superior to the old and about 100 times faster. The old didn't support boolean features which made it pretty brain-dead. Any way, to search on three letter terms, us the wildcard feature:

oil*

Most likely reason

The old search defaulted to all forums. The new search doesn't. If you want to broaden the search, select all forums from the bottom of the forum list.

Okay, I hope I'm being dense here.

I logged on, and hit "View New Posts. " There were a few, as I hadn't logged in since yesterday. I inadvertently closed the window, and opened it again, and hit "View New Posts" again.

Naturally, it only showed a few, as the bbs remembered when I'd logged in last.

I tried to use the search engine to find all posts since yesterday. I failed miserably. Is there a trick to this?

Search...

Since the search engine expects search words, I don't know any way you could use it just to search for posts from a specific day.

Search engine needs more help

The search engine is more difficult to use than the last one. I keep getting the 4 word minimum error. It keeps saying my search (off) as in "O/D off tow* while" does not meet the 4 word min. It thinks I'm searching for "off", but I'm not? What's up with that?

It'd be nice to have tutorials, FAQs, help screens on the search engine error screens. Right now, there's only the regular links to TDR and a webmaster address that keeps getting returned to sender!

This search engine is certainly a step backward from the other. So what if it supports boolean expressions. Some of us can enter a boolean expression in RPN notation with no trouble. And some of us think you can't spell bowling. A reduction of capability for speed is NOT a good trade off! If it won't find words like "oil" it's a poor excuse for a search engine.
