Search Upgrade

Don't get me wrong, but can we improve the search capability of this site? When I try to search here it slowly goes through each subject area and shows me it's progress. When I go to the DieselPage - the search is almost immediate - not 25-30 seconds later. Can this be improved?

They have a lot fewer messages on the dieselpage than we do, that's the problem with the speed. The entire website is undergoing a major change/rewrite as of June 1st so things will hopefully be better - I think the search function is supposed to be one of the big improvements I believe.

You're probably right - thanks for the input and can't wait for the improvements.

Searching is one of the best upgrades of the new system. Because it's database driven, its VERY fast. Using test data (a snapshot of the boards from a month ago), I can do a full keyword search of all forums in about 2 seconds, rather than the 1-2 minutes it currently takes.

Hey guys-you'd better not make this to good or else we're have the answer before we finish typing? BTW, isn't it amazing how impatient we can get, having to wait to do a search. Just look back 10 years - searching wasn't possible as there wasn't a system in place for the common folk. The progress has been amazing. What the next 10 years holds - well who knows - it's wide open.
