On my 98. 5 2500, this past year the seat belt retractor (driver side) is getting more useless all the time. Problem is that every time I get out of the pickup, I need to almost hand feed the seat belt retractor as it doesn't have enough tension to rewind the strap.

Is is possible to adjust anything to increase the tension or is this a replace only part? If anyone has replaced theirs, what sort of price are they?

I see that some of the newer pickups had a seat belt retractor recall, but those are for vehicles newer than mine.

Mine does the same thing and has done it since around 50k miles. I now have 156k miles and nothing has changed. My 99 Jeep wrangler does the same thing and half the time I shut the door on the belt and am worried about cutting the belt.

My '99 does it.

and it agravates the pee out of me! I have shut the belt in the door several times. The right belt did it once with the wife and the belt got caught in the door latch when the door closed. Liked to have not gotten the door open and now the belt has a small cut in it.

:--)

Yep mine does it too. Pi$$'es me off to no end. If there is a lifetime warrenty on this I'll endure the dealership and have them fix it (yeah right--they'll look at it for a day, take the thing apart and not put it back together correctly, have to order parts, 3 months later get the parts in, take the truck for another day, not fix it correctly and I will end up doing the work). I think it will be easier to just help the belt by hand. :p

Dealer told me that there was a TSB on this, although I could not find one. Said it would take half a day to repair it once the parts were in. Mine still winds up but not as fast as it once did. I passed on the fix as I cant give up truck for a day. U may want to contact a dealer and see about the fix.

Hope this helps.
