All of a sudden both my passenger and driver seatbelts will not pull out of the seat back to fasten them. They will both move about 2 inches and they lock. It happened to both belts at the same time, a few weeks ago. I have been trying them every time I drive the truck, but they still do not work. Any ideas before I visit the dealer :( ?

Thanks -

Lucky you.

Your truck (and all '98 - '02 Quad Cabs) have the seatbelt pretensioners built into the seats themselves - that's no surprise to you at this point.

Thanks to Chrysler's infinite wisdom - there are electronics involved with the seatbelts. When something is amiss with the electronics - the seatbelts won't come out at all. There's a module bolted to the underside of the bench seat... make sure it's getting power.

There's also a fuse for this - make sure that's all good...

I remember there being a few really good posts on here that describe how to troubleshoot the whole shebang. I got my belts working in 5 minutes thanks to the threads on here...

Thanks HOLESHOT -

I appreciate the info - always makes me feel better when I find out I am not the first one to have gone down the path of trouble.

I had the same problem a few weeks ago. Look under the center console for a module mounted underneath. The connector probably has shaken loose as mine did. Takes about ten minutes to get to and fix unless you got 3 foot arms.

Seat belts operational!

Thanks for the info guys . . . I decided to locate the module under the center seat and check the wiring. It was quite a surprise to find the module laying on its side up against the drivers seat frame (obviously at more than a 30 degree angle, thus keeping both belts locked). The more I looked at the module and mounting position, it became evident that it was not physically possible for the module to have ended up in this position if it had been mounted properly in the beginning (the plug should come in from above the mounting plate - mine was plugged in from below). I could only find 1 of the 2 mounting screws on the floor. I began scratching my head until I remembered having the drivers seat back replaced while the truck was still in basic warranty due to a "fasten seatbelt" light that continually came on while the belt was fastened. Evidently, all component parts did not find their way back home :( . I had to remove the center seat to reinstall everything properly (so much fun playing contortionist at 6'4"). Anyway, all is well now in seatbelt world. One more reminder of why we like to take our trucks to the dealer . . .
