For those who care. I visited my brother in law last week in the Albany, NY area. He has an '03 Laramie with leather seats. I have a '03 SLT with cloth. My seats are 2 inches longer (19") than his (17")! That was a suprise to me even though I have heard some negative comments about short leather seats.

Don, I care,

Are you refering to the back seats, or the front seats. That 2 inches would make a difference to myself and my wife.

TIA

Seat Depth Clarification

The front seat under your butt as measured from the back rest to the edge of of the seat behind your knees is 19" on the SLT and 17" on the Laramie.

This was the case when I bought my 98. 5. We got the leather because my wife is 5' 2" and her feet didn't reach the floor comfortably with the cloth seats. It is a concideration for shorter people.

We've had leather seats in our past trucks, '97 3500 and '00 3500. The seats in the '00 truck were shorter than the cloth seats. My wife is 5'2" also and the shorter seats help her. I noticed it when we first got the truck, but after a few miles I got used to it.

Our '03 Laramie 3500 is the same way and after driving it on the last trip of 4,500 miles, I don't notice it anymore. The combination of the shorter seat and the adjustable pedals really do make it easier for my wife to do some of the driving... and I can take a nap in the pasenger seat!!

The lumbar cushion in the Laramie seat can make the seat depth shorter, too. I tend to have my lumbar cushion maxed out and have fairly long legs. The seat depth is fine for me even on really long drives. I love that adjustable seat. If you can't make it comfy for you, keep fidgeting with the controls.

Haven't measured the leather seats, but they sure are comfortable and they have the means to get just about anyone comfortable with all the adjustments you can make. The adjustable pedals combined with the tilt wheel are useful tools for comfort as well.

I'm 6' 3" and my wife is 5' 2" (I think she might even be a bit shorter. ) The cloth seats just wouldn't work for us. Besides the seat cushion length, you can't buy an electric passenger seat with the cloth. My wife needs to adjust the seat front down, back up in order for her feet to reach the floor. The cloth seat is at such an angle that it would cut off circulation in her legs.

I think the leather seats are very comfortable and they've made a big impression on my wife. She also likes the heated seat and the separate heat controls. Things worked out great. She really likes the truck and, when she's happy, I'm happy.

If varying seat depth is true between SLT cloth and Laramie leather, that would be another reason to get SLT cloth and then get aftermarket leather, as I've done. (See details in URL of sig).

I think the lumbar is making for differences in measurements. I just measured my seat dead center with the lumbar support retracted and the measurement is just under 19". Seat Wars:-{} :-laf :-laf :-laf. Just buy what ever feels good to you when you meet it face to face ;) .

I never measured my seats either, but on my 99 with leather my wife complained on long trips that it was uncomfortable because of the long seat, (she is 5'2"). on the new 03 with cloth seats she says they are just right!
