seat heater

The seat heater on the passenger seat does not work. When the button is pressed the light flashes a couple of times and then goes off. Anybody have any ideas what the problem could be?

There are diagonstic codes displayed by the flashing pattern. I don't have my manual here, or I'd look them up for you. The heating element is probably shorted or open.
