On my '97 3500, the seatbelt buzzer and dashboard light stay on now. A couple of weeks ago it started this unwanted behavior. The buzzer stops if I pull the seatbelt about halfway out but the light stays on. I've taken apart the column behind the driver seat and checked out the seatbelt switch, it's a sensor that is supposed to close a ground in the circuit. I've looked at the wiring diagram in my service manual but can't figure out which wires to "disable" one of them is the stop light on the top/back of the cab. It won't do me any good to cut the seatbelt sensor because it's already an open circuit. Has anyone come across this problem yet? Is there a simple solution? I would also like to get rid of the seatbelt light, it's annoying. Thanks!

atomizer Looking at manual the buzzer activates the warning light(seat belt reminder light).
Buzzer is used for several warnings.
Look in "Chimes/Buzzer warning systems. Has info on both drivers seat belt switch(looks like you can unplug connection and loose it)and buzzer.
I have 96 manual.

Thanks MM. I've disconnected the plug at the seatbelt sensor. This actually makes it worse because the circuit has no way to be completed when unplugged. I've even arced the plug with a u-shaped wire to close the circuit but it still behaves as if it's unplugged. The way it is now, if I don't want to use my seat belt I can pull the seatbelt out halfway, tie a knot in it and the buzzer goes off. It's as if the sensor has gone half-bad. It's a little spring-actuated feeler that senses when the seatbelt has been pulled out enough to be used. It says in the service manual that if the sensor goes bad the whole seatbelt assembly must be replaced... . no thanks! I'd rather go swimming in the Great Barrier Reef with an open wound than go to my local dealer. I'll keep trying stuff out and let you know what I come up with. Thanks anyway!

atomizer read page 8U-2 Drivers seat belt switch. In reading this section when tip of seat belt is in serted into opposite section this opens the ground path.
The ground for seat belt switch and center high mounted brake lights are the same, looking at groung diagram you can includ dome light, left and right rear speaker. Orange wire should be ground but looks like every thing connected. Ground is located drivers side door frame behind seat.
Of course they could have changed switches and wiring between years.
My book says switch normally closed providing ground path to buzzer. (when igniton key turned on seat belt not buckled)when buckled ground path is open.
If yours works opposite I'll have to reverse my thinking on how to disable. But looking at diagrams and reading how it functions unpluging should kill light and buzzer. Unless wire is being being grounded further along(toward buzzer) according to 96 manual.
according to your last post your's is different. Try junk yard.
