I've seen Greg's conversion on the 3rd Gen and it looks like a piece of cake.

Will the early 2cnd Gens work as easily? 95/96/97 12 valves?

I'm looking for a manual 12 valve and most 5 speeds are in the duallys and I rather have a single axle.

Thanks

jeff

I think there's a guy on here that did it... may a few but I think the track width is wider on the Dana dually axles than the SRW axles. I'm sure someone will confirm but if you search the conversion topics, you may come across one.

Freynolds72,
Thanks for the reply. I know the 3rd gens stick out about 2"; I kind of like the look.

Anyone? Getting ready to buy a truck(96 Dually) and want to know if it is as easy to make into a SRW as the 3rd Gens are.
Thanks

Should be pretty straightforward, Jeff.

Bed, spacers in the front, could probably get away with the dualie axle in the rear.

Thanks for the info. In the 3rd Gen, the dually bed worked ok(with a bit of putty and paint, and some fender flares). Are the beds on the 2cnd gen duallys different enough to force a bed change? I'm not so much scared of the work but I'm trying to save as much money as I can.

Thanks

jeff

Maybe I am missing the point, but why not just get a 2500 as the trucks are identical save for the bed and rear axle at the wheels. A dana 80 is still a dana 80 even if on a 3500.

Good point, and I would rather get a 2500. It just seems that there are a lot more manual transmissions in 3500s and, at least around here, year for year, the 3500 are going for a bit less.

jeff

I think what you will need to look at would be the potential savings of a 3500 over a 2500 and then the added cost to the 3500 to make it a SRW rather than a DRW.

Yeah, I've considered it. It may be a wash or actually cost slightly more, but it's really hard to find the manuals around here, and by opening up the DRWs, I more than double my choices. I've been looking for about 5 months now, and just started looking at the 3500s for about 2 weeks. In the 5 months, within 200 miles of Saint Louis, I've found maybe 6 or 7 manuals in 2500s, most of which had other issues or were priced very high(50-100% over bluebook, in some cases). Since I've started looking at 3500s(3rd gen), I've seen 4 in a week with a manual, of which 1 would have worked great, but was gone before I got to it. I was just trying to expand my options in the 12 valve arena(trying to find out whether the 12 valves were as easy to convert as the 3rd gens).

I'm rambling on. Sorry about that.

I have a 2001 quadcab DRW 4x4 with stock tires. I want to be able to convert it to SRW for winter driving

AND

to be able to back this truck into a narrow driveway with tall concrete curbs. The rear wheels are too wide to back into the drive.

Is there a wheel that I can bolt on and maintain some reasonable appearance?

I don't want to swap trucks, swap axles or change the front wheels.

I want to be able to put the duals back on when I want to pull a trailer on a log trip.

Thanks

DEP5,
that's what I hoping to find out also. I know the 3rd gens will do it with just the standard 3rd gen wheels, but I don't know about the second gen(with the stock 2cnd gen 2500 wheels).

i am running stock aluminum srw 01 wheels on the back of my 97 dually. track close match to the front dually wheels.

also do the same on my 1st gen duallys.

just pick up some srw type lug nuts. for my 97 i used some off a 3rd gen i got for next to nothing at a tire shop who got em with factory takeoff wheels traded in on custom wheels and chrome lug nuts.

sure is a lot better traction running singles for winter.
