Made second tow. Combined weight 15. 5K (See sig for details). Towed 298 miles round trip from Edmonds, Wa to Yakama River and back via I-90. Used 29. 2 gals of fuel. Only 1063 miles on new truck, so mileage should go up. Went over pass in 3rd TC locked up at 62-63 MPH with a few hundred RPM's still available. I was pushing it hard on all the hills to aid breakin.
I think the 4. 10's are the right gears for this engine if you tow. Runs around 1,900-2,000 RPM's in 4th at 62-63 MPH and will handle most of normal freeway driving in OD. On the bigger hills, I punch it out of OD and the noise is not too bad at 2,700-2,800 RPM's. Lots on power in 3rd.
With the 3. 56's I think that you would be out of OD more than you were in OD with this 24V engine when towing. Old 93 worked OK with 3. 56's. If you want to tow at 55MPH, then get the 3. 56's and run around in 3rd all the time.
Actually 4. 10's and a Gear Vendors OD would really be great. 3rd. OD would be a great gear to have. and 4 OD/OD would be a real cruiser empty.
On ramp performance is outstanding.
Punch this rig and it goes.
I do not know what DC has been doing lately with the 47RE, however this one shifts very firm and lockup's are very positive, maybe its the 4. 10's.
I do not think that Dodge fully figured out the wiring for the brake controller and changing. I cut the trailer charge wire just outside the firewall and connected a change relay. I am going to make another change to it, by powering it from its own circuit breaker. The way they have it, if you over load it and blow the 40AMP fuse you lose running lights on the trailer. I also powered the brake controller from a circuit breaker, not from the power source at the brake controller plug. That power comes from the same 40AMP fuse for trailer running lights and charging.
To sum up, I am very happy at this point, love the upright seating position, leg room (I'm 6'4") placement of the controls, sound (and/or lack of) and handling of the rig. Wife likes it alot better than the 93.
