TDR p.16 re; Pre fuel filter?

Throttle cable finally broke on my 96 4x4 Cummins this week-end,went to nearest Dodge dealer for new throttle cable and secondary bell crank kit. I replaced only the cable in order to get home every thing seems to work fine,what is the need to replace the secondary bell crank? By the way it is an auto. Thanks in advance. Ron
 
Ron,

The directions in the kit are pretty good. Just remove the e-clip, and take off the old bellcrank. Put the spring on the shaft, then put the new bellcrank on.

The tough part is getting the spring tabs resting on the bellcrank and the shaft. The spring has to come around ALOT. Its kind of a pain. I was expecting a finger to get snapped in the process. You will see.

Ron,

If you have a Polaroid camera it might be a good idea to take a picture of the spring set up before you take it off. It's not obvious how it goes back. Don't knock a finger nail off!

The new bellcrank gives more of a straight pull with the new cable. If I remember right when you don't use the new bellcrank your cable can pop off of the old bellcrank when you least expect it. It's tricky to change but not rocket science. Watch those fingertips!
