An Illusive Burnt Orange 2500 ~Ebay~

Hey all! I am having a breakdown and need to talk to my most trusted support group, the TDR!

I keep feeling like my truck is inadequate! I just put 285 tires on and it seems bigger but its still stock height pretty much.

I see all these lifted Duramaxes and PSDs and my truck seems small! I will lift it when money comes around but not more than 4 inches. Like I said, all these huge trucks come around with 315s or 35s and 6 or 8 inches of lift. They may be pointless but do look nice, I must admit.

Is the reason I see more lifted Fords and GM/Chevys lifted because they have to make up for their engines being inferior to the mighty CTD?

I wish I was joking but it really is kind of bothering me! CHEER ME UP!!!!!!!!!!!!

Do you know what all that stuff is worth? Nada. Now if you have money to burn, that's a good place to burn it. No complaints there. Those trucks look good, to an extent anyway. In fact, that's what's happening when fellers do that to their truck... they're burning money.

Personally, I'd rather my truck just be its stock height, and know that I have the money it would take to lift it, safely tucked away in my savings account. In that case, I'm saving money versus spending additional money I'll never get back.

Who knows, when (IF) that Cummins 600 roles around with a true crew cab, I'll be purchasing one (second or third year build of course). But like I said, if you got the money to burn, then do so at your discretion.

Those be "toy trucks" don'tcha know. Those of us who use our trucks for work (as opposed to driving to work in them) appreciate the stock bed height. As a roofing contractor, my back gets a good work out as it is, without adding another 6". I still appreciate the height of the 1st gen. truck for work over the 2nd gen.

They may look high performance, but get them out on the pullin' track and see how they stack up! Lots of wheel hop and they run out of steam faster than the stock (too much tire?). Just my personal observations.

To lift or Not

Back in the late 70's and early 80's I did the lift kit and big tire thing, and at the time thought that was it. "Remember" Pop saying, Y! I would'nt stretch my "censored" to get up in that thing every day-----son when you get a little older you'll go for comfort more than show. Of course Dad was right. It's ok to do if that's your thing, but now day's if I was looking to buy a used truck I would tend to look more to a stock set up vs. a lifted truck even though it had been taken care of, and not abused. The mind tells you to stay away. I would like to lift the front to level out my 03, but not sure I will ever do it, it tracks so good now I'm kinda scared to mess with it. Anyway if I was going for impression I'd go bombing for HP, that burns there butts to see a stock looking ride out run there Monster. JMHO! :-laf

Thanks guys! I knew I could count on you to cheer me up!

I think if I can ever afford to have a work truck AND a play truck, then I will lift one of them, but for now I will either put just the leveling kit on, or air ride.

I am only 22 and the stock ride does not bother me but air ride would be nice. May seem like an "old man" thing to do but hell, air ride would be something better to brag about than spending $2000 for an IFS lift, plus tires that would rattle your teeth loose.

It's funny, I see a nice lifted truck, then wish my truck was like that, but then I can't see myself getting out the step ladder just to get in it, or tweaking my back to load the bed!

Something I will always remember when it comes to lifted trucks versus ego, is dyno day (forget what place it was) when us Dodge guys went with the Ford guys and had a little fun. It was a Ford show so they got to go first, some of them with 6"lifts and shiny paint jobs and such. Bragging about their bad a$$ truck, this and that, etc, etc, then Jeff Randol brings in his stock height, dirty 2002 QC 4x4 and puts down 520 HP, showing all those lifted trucks up. Ruined their egos bad! (Good job Jeff!).

Remember what people always say? Real beauty is in the inside? In the case of a truck, it's whats under the hood that counts!

Ok, enough rambling. Going outside to measure my truck for air suspension parts fabbing!

Dude!! Nick, no need to feel inadequate. Get all your HP bombs done and then see who feels adequate at the stop light! :D :D

Don't worry so much, your truck stock would still be higher then a Chevy with a 4" lift, they are lame. Fords thou have always been high right from the factory, Humm... . ??... . ???... . I wonder if that has anything to do with them being the #1 seller... ???... . Maybe?

If you are still having problems and feeling less then whole, Get yourself a pillow and set on it, now you feel TALLER.

Do you get more of a "rush" workin' a rice grinder import POS in a race OR wandering in and out of the grooves in the road cause your tires are too wide

As far as trails go, you won't see too many of those "super high" trucks make it where the little jeeps and stockish pickups go (toyotas not included, they are built shorter from the get go). I'll be taking that burning money and putting in dual lockers, only "little" 33" tires, a winch, and a new heavy-duty front bumper and you'll see me actually make it under tree branches and hanging rock outcrops without restyling my roof.
