I probably wouldn't have noticed this but our bedroom is right above the battery compartment and I had to run the generator at night. So I hear this "ploink" noise every 15 seconds or so. I listen and track it to the self resetting breaker (little box type) that is in the battery compartment next to the battery shutoff switch. It clicks off (you can hear the generator unload), resets (generator loads), and does it again. The generator is a 5500 Onan, batteries are Deka 12v in parallel. No load on the generator other than the converter and lights on the microwave. When I shut the battery shutoff to off, it stops. I don't have a multi meter with me. Any thoughts?

Extreme load likely from a bad battery. Disconnect one of the batteries and see if it stops. Do not try and recover it as it sounds like a shorted cell. Later when you borrow a multi-meter If both are good and no high load replace the worn out breaker.

Both Home Depot and Lowes carry low cost multimeters. I consider one a must have in my RVs. There is always SOMETHING going crazy and troubleshooting with one speeds things up considerably.
I don't remember what I paid but I carry a clamp on amp meter that does DC in the toy hauler (also has multimeter capability). Help me understand where all the parasitic load was going.

I checked all grounds that I could find and jiggled wires. Now it doesn't do it. Will pick up a multi meter.
