Ok guys The first diesel I ever wanted before I could drive was my dads friends truck, He was the local dodge dealership owner and had this beauty (pic) but It came to him from a vet so it has high miles 299000 BUT it had the vet box on the rear so the bed was NEW pretty much and he (dealer) put a all new interrior, new body pannels on, rhino lined the unerneath, bed/rails, and lower body (body line down) then turned the pump up, aux fuel tank/tookbox, and new 9'2" boss plow. I got to test drive but had to sell my 95 gasser but the Diesel was sold b4 I could get my rid of my ride.

Well the dealer since bought a 96 and did the same to it and a bit more(he planned on pulling it) well he had a untimely death. I went past the dealership the other day and the gray truck was back! I instantly stopped in to see it. and it now has a rebuild pump and new trans.

Ok should I sell my 01 for this 90. I absolutly love the 1st gen body. (my first rig was a 89 250 318) Are the mods pretty easy & cheap? This is a non-innercooled so would it be hard to inner cool it? (it has a larger turbo also but im not certain on what size)

This truck is SPOTLESS and a NEW interrior I cant stress how nice this truck is. Mrs Dealer told me 10,500 but she just thru it out there.

Ahhhh I need to get off some cash and buy it and keep my 24V.

what do you guys think???

TIA

Ian

Your asking us guys what to do???? :D

I work with/on these engines every day and you don't have to ask me what is more reliable. When the 24 valve engines quite, guess what goes back out on the road :) The twelve valves keep going and going... .....

If you get crazy with the early engine you'll have to upgrade the head due to the large injector holes and add an innercooler due to extream EGT. Locating modifications are no problem. You can boost HP #'s quite effectively and reasonably.

Keep in mind that if it has seen a good deal of snow plowing, it will take it's toll on the trans and front axle assy. Hopefully the trans has not seen much plowing since replacement. The Cummins punishes these areas quite enough with out adding a snow plow.

You simply cannot go wrong with these trucks.

Only my . 02

Greenleaf Thanks!!

The plow has only been on for 2 years and has only done the dealership parking lot, and his home. Im thru plowing for good other than here at the house and a couple of my buddies homes as well.

The trans was just put in this year 05,

I enjoy my 01 interrior but the electronics have me worried with what all can go wrong.

Well, I have had a 97 gasser, still have an 86 gasser and a 93 CTD. IMO you cannot beat the ruggedness and simplicity of the first gen body style... and they are waayyyy cooler looking too. Thats one nice looking truck there, i would have a hard time passing it up (but the missus would`nt, lol)

You cant go wrong it's simply the best of the best, and if it's what you want, have at it Ian.

You wont have a problem finding upgrades, mild to wild you can do it all. but you will already have the best upgrade, by getting rid of the other 12 valves :-laf

Plus we would love to see you in the group

Absolutely NOT for $10,500!!!!!!!!!! Thats insane for a non-intercooled non-overdrive transmission 300k mile truck. Market value would be more like in the neighborhood of $5k. PASS.

so ya'll think its too high even with the:

-New body pannels (bumpers & grille included) *paint as well*

-complete new interrior (dash/doors/headliner/seat rubber floor... . )

-rebuilt pump (not a peck of dirt on it /rebuild markings clearly visible)

-new trans

-9'2" plow (thats a 5000 plow in inteself with the locking cylinders handheld control, fume flap *behind seat to be installed*)

-like new tires/rims

-K&N setup

But If you guys still think its too high whats a reasonable price to shoot for, 5K seems too low including the plow even with depreciation on the plow thatd make the truck worth $1500.

Thanks guys

Ian

*by the way itd be stacked as soon as it rolled home* :-laf

$5k with plow, $4k without plow PERIOD. Much more can be had for $5k, let alone $10. 5k BTW is a W250 not a D350. W= 4wd, D= 2wd. Get it for $5k and keep your 01.

haha its been awhile since Ive had the 250 so ive forgot some of the lyngo

but it is a 350 or so says the badging

what is the stock turbo size for that year, I was told it was upgraded and looks to be pretty shinny althought Im not 100% Ill have to stop back in and ask the size or pop the hood for myself and get the # off the turbo

I want smoke like partsman!! haha

Ian

Then its a W350. Stock turbo is a H1C. Stock size will have a 3" intake opposed to a 4". Pop the hood and get some pics for us. 300k miles on drivetrain does not equal anything over $5k JMO.

You guys in the mid west must have a lot more 1st gens to pick from then we do out here in the Northwest, if that truck is only worth $4000 I'll take a 1000 of them as they would resell up here for around $8000 with all the new parts.

I think the price might be slightly negotiable but it seems to only be a little high not double what the truck is worth.

Just my $. 02

Caleb

The only reason the asking price is $10. 5k is its owned by a dealer or maybe on the dealers lot. Its nonintercooled and only has a 3 speed nonoverdrive trans for petes sake... you left coasters must not have owned one of these early trucks... its fun running down the interstate at 60mph listening to the engine roar... Ian pass, wait, you're in the midwest, there will be another for sale keep looking.

I agree $10. 5 is outrageous but $5k does seem a little light (I can't belive I just said that about a 300k mile pickup  )

I have been shopping for another truck myself and after driving a few 1st gens I don't think I could go back to one. Personally I would stick with a 2nd gen 12v if you are wanting to get rid of the 24v. JMHO
