Just a general question looking for opinions on what sells or turns buyers away. Would it be better to try to sell a truck by highlighting the performance options and audio accessories? Or to try to return as close to stock as possible and move the aftermarket stuff separate?

This is not an attempt to sell on this thread, Just considering a move.

If you still have warranty and that is a selling point, return it to stock. If you live in a small community and are known, it probably won't matter. If out of warranty, find a testosterone charged teenager :-laf

I think it depends on where you market it. If you list it here, you may be able to find someone who appreciates the investment in aftermarket parts and how much work it takes to get a truck to where it is. In the real world, the mods may not make any sense to the "average joe" I found that locally, most of the "old guy who tows a 5th wheel crowd" do not like lots of mods. But to the right people, they are a good selling point. I have sold 2 modded trucks and gotten what i considered to be a fair deal for both parties. Of course you never get what you put in to it, but if you remove the mods you wont get anything for them anyway on resale

My experience has been to return it to stock for the quickest sale. You aren't going to get any more for the mods anyway in most cases.

I'm one of those old guys who is very meticulous about maintaining my truck, it is always garaged and only driven on long trips. I do tow heavy (six horses) but I don't flog it. I have added a few things to my truck ( transferflow tank, Line Ex , fuel pressure warning light). I have not added any performance mods. I have a list of people who have told me " If you ever decide to sell your truck let me know". There is a ready market for trucks that have been babied. Although I know that the 5. 9 can stand alot of turning up, I myself would be suspicous of a truck that been cranked up alot. My 2 cents. Steve

i like to buy a stock truck, when i want to go screwin around with stuff i like myself to be doing the screwing around so i know exactally whats being done to it

I've sold both modded and stock trucks, and it is a good selling point when a 1st gen will outrun a 97PSD with a chip. For some reason, people like lower mile trucks that havent been worked . I think if they havent been worked, or if they have sat for a long time, that is worse than working them day in and day out.

On the flip side, cant you nromally get about 50% of retail for aftermarket mods? Sell the stock truck for a little less and though it may take a year to move the extras, you should come out ahead in the long run.
