Ca DMV renewl required a factory recall (T05) be completed and re smogged b4 completing renewl. dealer completed several recalls (my 13 3500 4x4 with 16k mi) has now had 11 recalls and counting) The truck also had a ck engine light which they trouble shot..replaced the forward NOx sensor and reset the ck eng llight. Smog guy said sensors not reset needed to be driven about 100 mi. After 240mi at 50-70 mi at a time and several more trips to smog guy...he refered me to dealer to have the computer reflashed or something, he was unsure. The dealer service writer said the sensors are related to the vehicle regening..and the vehicle needed to be driven on 2ea 2 hr trips to get the vehicle to go into regen mode and reset all the sensors?? IM not sure if the service writer knows what he is talking about...any one have any thoughts on this issue?

WITech 2.0 walks the tech step by step performing service Just Like JH stated, its not that hard it will take about 1-1.5hr for any capable person.

Actually running the monitors is not as easy as it was with DRBIII.
It usually takes several cold start drives, holding speeds steady. Most will run within 5 minutes once the correct parameters are met.

There is a specific drive cycle needed to reset all the monitors. The dealer can lookup the details in their service manual and give you the details. Without the specific drive cycle it could be 1000s of miles before they reset.
The drive cycle info is not in the service manual.

It may not be but the info is available. The dealer did this customer a disservice with their failure to disclose the info. Not that I expect the service writer to know it by heart but I do expect him or her to know where to find it.

They couldn't tell him because it isn't available in any of the factory service information. Actually the aftermarket has some pretty good reference information that we have at the college for the smog class.

The dealer did the work knowing he had to make inspection. Do you consider it good practice to set up a customer for failure? As you say, the info is out there. You either make sure it’ll pass or give the customer the info to do it themselves. The shop I help out does it regularly.

Sometimes topping off the DEF helps reset some of the emissions sensors??????

Edit:. Followed by hwy driving.

Would you like to post this info for us "honorary students" you have here on the TDR??:D...or any web links that would have the info.....:)

Unfortunately I have only seen them use a printed book. Not sure there is anything online. After all it is the State of California.

In 2011 there was a tab published, nearly 30 pages if I recall. Its not 100% accurate for the the def trucks but close enough to get started.
