Two weeks ago I threw this:

1693(companion code) 1021(apps voltage does not agree with map).

I did a search and found that often when a VP dies it throws a 1021. Took it to local diesel shop and we found that fuel pressure was 1-2psi and vacuum under acceleration:){).

My 01 then received $2670. worth of VP injection pump and intank lift pump. It runs better and sounds better BUT TODAY check engine light came on.

Now I have a 1693(companion code) 1022(apps signal voltage

too low)

Is it possible to have a bad VP and a bad APPS.

Feedback Please!!

I NEED THE TRUCK FIXED RIGHT. I am at my wits end.

Dave

I replaced the APPS and two days later the VP44 started throwing codes. Not sure if the two are related though but, they were in my case. Be glad you have a manual the APPS for autos is higher priced than manuals.

Anybody have feedback on the apps cost for a truck with manual trans.

NOTE: I have had a strange noise since(fri, sat, sun) the VP and intank pump swap. Sounds like a bird chirp, or strange high mid pitch squeak that I can control with my acc pedal(croak of a bull frog at mid power band. )

PLEASE KEEP THE FEEDBACK COMING. Thanks again!!

Dave

PS-Shobbs where do you get your outerwears and QUAD pillar???

WELL, you're not exactly a "newby" here - and have undoubtedly read it MANY times - too late for you now, but:

GAUGES, GAUGES, GAUGES!

You should NEVER have to "take in" your truck for PSI readings - they SHOULD be right there in your face! You have lots of existing mods - and more planned - but where are your gauges? Sorry for your problems, but... . ;)

Other new guys reading this thread, take note - it just MIGHT save you serious $$$...

I have had gauges in all three of my previous DIESEL trucks. I should have mentioned that I have owned this 01 since April 23 of 07. I have the gauges from genos sitting my work bench but being 25 years old, married, and having to work long weeks, cuts into my truck time. I cant wait to be retired and have all day to work on my CTD. The harder I work now, the sooner I get there. The only reason I went to the diesel shop was to verify my FP reading I took with my MAC tools fuel pres gauge.

This being said the fuel press gauge has nothing to do with the APPS code I seem to be getting. If the fuel pressure and VP are the problem the shop that did the work will be on the hook, It is the fact of not having the truck to use. I did not buy the truck to sit at the diesel shop.

Dave

NO doubt about it, being retired DOES provide lots of extra time for various projects! :-laf:-laf

An APPS will cost you somewhere over $300 at a Dodge dealership - might be a little cheaper thru Cummins - good luck.

Thanks Pete. How is the 94 running? I have seen the grey truck around town a few time but not the 94. I hope all is okay.

I had to work today:){ :{) and when I left for work at ten to seven, no engine light. Through out this whole ordeal, the 01 ram has had good power and runs great. I will keep you guys up to date. Tomorrow when the local shop is open I will chat with them and see what to do, because it is kind of their baby at this point. Thanks again guys!!

Dave

I need to pull the plow off the 94 and drive it. It could use the exercise. It ran great all winter, but I've gotten spoiled by the creature comforts in the new one. I had a couple electrical gremlins that had me pulling apart the dash, and it's been that way ever since. There just seem to be too many more important projects at the moment so it will probably stay crude/utilitarian for now. If a light on the dash bugs you, you'd hate it. The brake, ABS, and water in fuel lights are on most of the time. :-laf

dclassens; PS-Shobbs where do you get your outerwears and QUAD pillar???[/QUOTE said:
I created my own quad pillar mount. I took a bullet mount and attatched it to the center guage on the triple pillar. I called outerwears for the BHAF cover. You can call them and tell them you need a cover for the BHAF, they know what you are talking about.

Gary,

No luck gtting an APPS at Cummins, I tried when mine crashed and Willy at the parts counter told me that they are blocked from getting them.

My APPS ran me about $390, I was quoted a price at around $600 and was told that was for the autos.

Thanks for keeping this going guys. Light came back on again this morning and same deal. The truck runs fine with the light. The shop owner is gone until next week and we will get right on it this monday.

Pete, I would rather deal with lights bugging me than a $2600 VP44. I am very anxious to get this truck dependable and ready for every day use without me playing worry about VP games. Hope to see you around and chat a bit!! thanks again!!
