It's been two weeks since I drove my truck:mad: And it's going to be 6 weeks more!!

I'm on an "all expense paid European Vacation" curtesy of Uncle Sam. I'm driving a rental-- an Opel Vectra. I hate driving small cars. These are potential hood ornaments to my truck. Luckily there aren't any of those over here.

There are worse places I could be, but I miss my truck. Oh, I guess I miss my family too. Yeah, I miss 'em. :D :D

I'm a pilot, and I don't get to fly but once a month while I'm over here :( Any more than that is just to be an observer for crews that haven't been to certain places in a while. Right now I'm sitting a midnight 12 hour shift, and I'm bored sick!!

I have my son starting my truck every week, and letting it run for about twenty minutes or so. Then he revs it up to about 1500 rpm for a couple of minutes and shuts her down. I hope this is enough to keep the batteries fresh and prevent any gelling in the lines. It's warm enough that there shouldn't be any probs. But NOBODY drives it but me. :p

I don't have any better place to park it but in my driveway. My wife sprays it down in the evening every couple of weeks. I hope that's enough.

Anyone have any other suggestions?

8 weeks aint no big deal for these trucks. I have been out of town for 5 weeks before with no one touching my truck and it started up and drove with no problems whatsoever. Just be glad you are not on an all expense paid trip to tikrit, iraq. I am travelling to jordan in roughly 2 weeks and I know I will miss my cummins more than anything. Hope you get back safely!

Dave,

Believe me, I'm glad I don't have to go there except in and out. I wish we could develop hydrogen engines or something and then leave the sand natzis to themselves!! Sorry to hear you're going to Jordan. For how long?

Be safe, and safe returns to you, too.

Soler,

I know the feeling. Back in '97 I was doing contract work supporting five factories (3 US, 2 UK). I was in the UK for 3-5 weeks at a time. I drove a Vauxhall Vectra (same car as yours but the steering wheel is on the wrong side) During that time (I made 13 trips in 15 months) my truck would sit in the parking lot at the airport. Never had a problem when I got home (other than the steering wheel was on the wrong side!).

Your truck will be fine.

Now as for your sanity...

You don't have to worry about fuel going bad in your truck.

I have diesel tractors that have not been run in 4 or 5 years and they will start when needed.

And I have a Mercedes that has been sitting since 1988. I start it every once in a while and let it run. It still has the red fuel that was in it since 1988!

Now vehicles and tractors with gasoline in them should be run every now and then and new fuel put in. That stuff will varnish and gum everything up.
