Seriously Injured Comp racer, Joe Angelo

Joe Angelo a retired Minnesota auto shop school teacher and NHRA competition eliminator racer was injured at the NHRA Lucas Oil div 4 race at the Texas Motorplex Saturday. I have known Joe and his wife Rosie for a long time and they along with their daughters are one of NHRA’s competition eliminators best known families. the car a B/Econo dragster drifted and crashed Saturday during a qualifying the following is a few updates from the comp forum

All our thoughts and prayers are with the Angelo family.

Due to the extent of his injuries it is doubtful Joe will be moved any time soon. Since he is in ICU flowers are not allowed but if anyone would like to send a card, he is in Parkland Hospital in Dallas.

A Special thanks to the Div 4 folks as they reached into their pockets and donated approximately $3500. 00 for Joe and Rosie. Also a special thanks to the people that stepped up and donated a rent car, gas money, motel and getting their truck & trailer back to Minnesota for them. Also a big thanks to DRAW for their help. Always there for the racer and their family.

You won't find better people than Joe & Rosie. They will be in our prayers and in our hearts. Praying for a speedy and complete recovery.

From Michelle Angelo...

We would like to take a moment to thank everyone for all of their thoughts, prayers, and generosity. It means so much to all of us.

We just got back from the hospital for the day. There is not much change; he is in critical

condition. At this time, he has a brain hemmorhage (which we don't know

much about at this time), multiple back fractures (no spinal cord injury), 9

broken ribs, a broken scapula, 25% of his body has first, second and third

degree burns (he will need skin grafts on his hands, arms, back, possibly thighs), he is currently on a respirator and in drug induced paralysis.

At this time, three of his major body systems (heart, lungs, and kidneys) are in distress. None of the injuries can be addressed until his systems start playing nicely together in the sandbox. We are hopeful that things will

turn around as we all know that he is a stubborn old man and like a good challenge. Mom is a very strong woman and holding us all together. We will give an update when we can.

Thank you all so much!

Michelle Angelo & The Angelo Family

Sorry to hear about this. It's tough on the family, but keep the optimism! The body, mind, and spirit can recover from these things. I'm sure he's surrounded by truly loving people, and he should know that the rest of us are pulling for him too.

I have heard that he is improving , I sure prayer is getting answered. a few comp racers from around the DFW area are going tomorrow to see him , and do what we can to encourage his family

Greetings,

On Saturday April 30th Joe was involved in an accident while racing his and Rosie's Comp Eliminator Dragster in Dallas Texas at the Texas Motorplex Divsion 4 points race.

Well, one week has passed since my honey was brought to Parkland Hospital in Dallas. Our four children and the spouses that were able to be with us arrived within 15 hours of their father's accident. It has been a very stressful week with highs and lows. The kids have been my salvation during this time and I know they will continue to be with us as much as possible in their thoughts, prayers and presence. I am shooing them home to be with their families and their jobs (somebody has to work). I will be staying down here with Joe for as long as it takes for him to recover. I have a small apartment close to the hospital that will be more than sufficient and a rental car that I get for free, compliments of one of our racing family teams. I want to take this time to thank each and every one of you for many prayers and wonderful comments. We feel very blessed to have so many friends. WOW!!! We need to remember that Joe was doing what he loves to do and he has been very lucky! This time we want him to be lucky in his recovery.

On to what is happening today--All his vital signs are good, but his body is having problems getting his blood platelets to reproduce. They will be testing him on Monday to see if they can find a cause. Joe has not woken up yet and the doctor told us this morning not to be discouraged as it could take up to a week or maybe more. We are very impatient people and "we want to know now", but that ain't gonna happen. We have to remember "One day at a time". Joe is still critical and on a respirator.

Love to all of you. Thanks. SuperWop's better half
