Three days and still no love...

Go to Advance Auto and pick up a listed Dayco belt for my 2012 3500.
NO way it'll fit! At least a 1/2" short. Call Dayco customer service and finally get to a "Sales Engineer". Opps our catalogue is wrong, the belt listed is 1/2" too short. Fine, he gave me the correct belt number and nobody had it. The parts gal looked up a belt that would be a 1/2" longer... and in fact it WAS a 1/2" longer than the Factory Belt. Went to Napa, Gates belt. It too is 1/2" shorter than the factory belt.

Morar part number 53041138AE and no one seems to make an identical belt (that I can get). The dealer wants $150 for the belt. A $75 premium for instant gratification. Not paying that!

The big bummer is the belt I took out has ZERO cracks after 11 years and 40,000 Miles.

Are these belts unicorns in the aftermarket?

As soon as I put a belt on, order one to put back in the cabinet. That way if I need it do to issue, I'm not worried about a B/O. Try to have things in the cabinet for the uh oh moments that pop up! Hoses were just put on in Dec, so I'll wait a couple yrs to have a set on hand. They're kept in a climate controlled area out of the sun. Filters are kept on yearly basis as needed. Guess that's the parts person in me! :D

Dayco # 5081260 which the tech said should have been a 5081265 (unavailable locally)
The other belt that was too long I don't have the number.
This morning's Gates 25-081264 would not go on, that was this morning's first try. Then a Gates 25-081256 on the second try, fit's perfect.
I swear I have a unicorn!

I'd wouldn't change that belt at all after just 40k Miles and no cracks at all.
Ols rubber parts are much better quality then everything you buy today, many chemical they used back then are now banned.
Thats why we see for example Michelin tires, just 4 years old with cracks, unseen before.
So, never ever replace a rubber part if it isn't broken or looks like it will break shortly.

Since Gates doesn’t have a K081256 and that it would be shorter than the K081264, I’m assuming you ended up using a K081265. It is 1/8” longer than the K081264 that the catalog calls for.

Exactly! That 1/8" is all it took to get the belt over the lip of the pulley.
My hands and arms look like ground beef, but it's in and working as it should.

There is something wrong with this chart as in metric they state only 1mm longer - which is 1/25.4" and not 1/8".
