Any body out there have an idea of how to get a serpentine belt to stop squeeling? It only chirps when I shut the truck off. I just replaced it about 1000 miles ago. Tried some belt dressing... . no go. Any ideas are appreciated!

its pretty normal even though on the 3rd gens they fixed it by using a special pulley on the alternator, there is a tsb I do believe if you don't want to hear it.

also don't use belt dressing on serp belts, they use friction to spin stuff and that stuff can cause lots of problems, dont' use anything for that matter.

Belts tend to stretch with use and cause chirping. I bought a replacement belt at Advance for my 95 and it still chirped. Few months later bought a replacement from Genos, which was a mopar belt, no chirping.

Compared my original belt, Advance belt, and Genos belt for length. Shortest belt was Genos, next was original belt, longest was the Advance belt. Maybe your replacement belt is too long?

why get rid of the chirp? I look forward to it every time I shut down. It lets the neighbors know I'm home.

My belt chirped from day one. 65K and still the original belt. There is a TSB for a overrunning pulley for those who find the chirp bothersome.

The search option is a wonderful thing: :D https://www.turbodieselregister.com/forums/search.php?searchid=418846

what size gatorback?

i have a 2006, looking to get rid of the squeek. whats the size? 81. 00", 110. 25" & 126. 50" were given as lengths... is there a part # you guys know of? thanks TDR's!

my 03 always did it but my 07 never has, it almost seems like the 07 has a different shut down program, doesn't shut off so abrubtly?

Thanks for all the info... ... I'll just leave it alone. Wasn't sure if it was a problem or not... . I'll also quit using belt dressing! Thanks again!

So do all you guys who like the belt squeak do you like your brakes to do the same? Mine did it and I replace the belt, then added dual CP3's which I've had for about 4 or 5 months and now it's doing it again with the belt that came with the kit. I'd replace the belt again but thanks to the worthless fluid damper (complete waste of money) it now takes an hour to replace a belt. About another week of this squeaking and I may have just enough motivation to fix it. To each their own but there isn't much of a difference from a truck that squeaks when you shut it off, to a $500 Buick that squeals when you start it. You know the one that the owner revs it too the moon so the squealing pulley catches up with the belt.

JFaulk.....whats with all the hostility?

i hate the squeeks myself, but hey whatcha gonna do... ... . buy a ferd? also, while i too, have a fluidampr, my luck must be a tad better than yours, because i definetly feel the difference..... it is smoother, no more vibration when rpms are over 2,000 on accelerations. i did however, believe like you, thought it was going to eliminate the squeek on shut down. ahhh well. still wouldn't trade the ol' girl for anything less than a decked out mercedes amg!:-laf

I notice absolutely zero improvement from the fluid damper. Everyone claimed it would help quiet down the clutch, which it didn't do. My main complaint now with it is the fact it's about . 0016" from the fan pully so belt removal is impossible unless you either remove the damper or raise the fan bracket. I agree on the AMG but I believe a black M3 with black leather will be in the garage next. ;)

I totally agree with all you said. A chiping belt is a sign of a new belt. But after it stops chirping that certainly doesn't mean it is worn out. I change mine every 100K miles and the chip comes back.
