So, My truck had about 600 miles on it, and I pulled my camp trailer about 500 miles round trip. It currently has about 1400 miles on and I started hear a metal rattling/clanging noise intermittently. I took it in and the shop says I have a bad serpentine belt tensioner. I'm wondering why something like this would go bad after 1400 miles. Anyone else have this same problem? I really hope I didn't buy a lemon.

My rig is a 2012 RAM 2500 6. 7L High Output, Big Horn Edition, True Blue.

No, it's never happened to me in about 650k miles with three Rams and I don't remember ever reading about it on TDR but, using the language of our younger generation, "ship happens. "

I wouldn't get too upset about it. Your truck is certainly not likely to be a lemon because of one faulty new part.

The belt tensioner is obviously defective but it was built on an assembly line somewhere by a parts manufacturer with a contract with Cummins to supply a specified number of them and a bad one slipped past inspectors and inspections. There is a possibility that other new owners will have a similar experience and someone will come down on the supplier like a ton of bricks.

I hope your dealer doesn't have a problem with obtaining the part immediately.

True enough... I don't think my truck is a lemon. I love the thing! The part will be in on Tuesday. Everybody I talk to say it was probably bad from the factory.
