On the last two trucks I owned (non Dodge) there was a schematic of the serpentine belt routing. I do not see one on my 2004. 5 CTD. Where can I find one?

Look like they forgot the sticker on this truck. I looked high and low-no where to be found. Anybody have a copy the can e-mail at -- email address removed --. Truck is a 2004. 5 with a/c. Thanks Dave

May I ask why you need the routing? Did your belt shred by any chance? Several of us with 04. 5s and 05s have had this happen with little or no warning, and very low miles.
 
Thanks Casey I got the diagram. No the belt has not shredded. I just want to ward off evil spirits. By carrying an exrtra belt (not much good if you do not know the routing scheme). I am hoping to avoid a problem. Someitimes I travel in some fairly lonely territory.

Yep, after my shredding incident, I now carry a spare also.

Just wondering where everyone is buying the S-belt from? I would think the dealer would be to high.



In addition to having an extra belt, I think it is a good idea to carry an extra fuel filter. I have talked to some folks that carry extra radiator hoses, and turbo cooling hoses.
 
has anyone replaced theirs lately? do you have to remove the tensioner pulley to do it? it looks like i would have to because there isn't enough room to get the belt between the pulley and the front of the engine. who designs this crap...
 
You do not need to remove the tensioner. There's just enough room between the tensioner and the block to get the belt on/off. I used a 1/2" breaker bar on the tensioner. Accessing the tensioner from under the truck I was able to hook the breaker bar on the balancer so I could go up top and pop the belt off of the alternator pulley :D :D

i'll give it a try. to release the tension i use a craftsman 1/2" drive flex head ratchet and remove the belt from the pulley just to the passenger side. i got the tension off but the gap between my block and tensioner pulley looked too small. once i get all the tension off the pulley would it hurt anything to remove the bolt and the entire tensioner then replace it when i start putting it back together? if i won't have any parts flying at me when i remove the single bolt in the center i may do that just to save my knuckles. thanks for your reply...

Haven't changed a belt on mine yet but way back when I worked on cars I had to take an idler pulley off. After turning the arm into a 2-piece with a breaker bar I discovered that the bolt was LH thread. Don't know if ours are like this but beware if doesn't righty tighty lefty loosey easily enough.

When I added a Jake Brake I had to change the belt. I kept trying to get it over the fan, but you can't, there's a line in the way. After a few more beers, I finally cussed it on correctly. This is not something you want to do on the road.
 
i finally got the thing changed. i had to back the tensioner pulley mounting bolt out most of the way so i could get enough clearance to get the belt by. once that part was done the rest was about a 20 minute job. if this happens on the road, it's not going to be fun. carry a spare belt, 1/2" flex head ratchet, and 13mm ratchet wrench, and the most important part something to throw after frustration sets in. would like to meet the engineer that designed that part and make him change it on the side of the highway at midnight, in -40 degree and rainy weather.
 
When I installed my exhaust brake I installed a longer belt and let me tell you that was the hardest part of the job! :{ Not much room up there for my not-so-skinny hands!



Anyhow, I used a 1/2" torque wrench (didn't have a breaker bar handy) to relieve the belt tension and held it in place with a c-clamp. I then cursed up and down while pushing & pulling the belt around each pulley. I give whoever can do this on the road, in the rain, in 32. 1* weather credit cause I *****ed the whole time while doing it in my garage!
