While hauling my camper back (~10,000 lb) from a camping trip with my 2017 Tradesman, running down the interstate in 2 WD a warning popped up on my dash "SERV 4WD". I rarely use 4WD and can't remember the last time I did put it in 4 WD. As fast as the light came on, it went away and repeated the same scenario several times. Made it home fine and dash warning hasn't returned.

I scanned the Drive Train Control Module with Alfa OBD and had no errors, but did find a stored error C147B. What exactly does this error code mean?

Thanks again to a great group of guys!

on my 2012 a year of so ago I would get that message very rarely... then it would go away... I have followed the maintenance schedule and I thought nothing but a gremlin... until 2 weeks ago when I picked up a 4WD service, traction control and ABS warning... it ended up being a RR whl sensor... I posted about it a few threads back...

i put a bit of dielectric grease on the plug going to the actutaor for good measure. but theres no reason to remove the actuator from the axle housing. you can hear if its working just by turning the knob. to verify even further just jack up one front tire and it will either be locked or it wont.
dont quote me but the tcase position sensor might also set of that same warning light. honestly i would grease the plug and shift to 4wd a few times then go about your day. engaging 4wd a few times a year aint a bad idea even if its just on a back road to keep the system moving once in a while

It's usually related to the front axle disconnect actuator. Might pull it off and check for debris/corrosion.

the motor and gears are sealed. fork ,rod and spring is all you can see but theyre bathed in the housing oil so unless the pumpkin is full of water or the intermediate shaft bearing exploded by some million to one chance ,there wouldnt be any debris and corrosion
