Server installation proceeding without a hitch.

So far we have the following software installed:

1. database

2. database replication

3. journaling file system

4. Apache server

5. PHP

6. mail (sendmail and qpopper)

7. Bind (DNS)

8. ftp

Tomorrow we'll be wrapping it up and moving a copy of the TDR site over. We hope to make the site available for beta testing at that time. These suckers FLY!

Hardware moved in

Hardware was moved into the new facility. Took all day (each server is 80 pounds!). Starting to move software over now... .

Update

Began testing new web server today, had a hardware failure with a network board. Consultant is picking up a new card. Each server has 3 network cards for redundancy but we want these to be 100% before they go into service.

Status update

1. Got Mysql database server (server #2) up and running.

2. Got the Mysql database software running

3. Got a snap shot of the database copied to new server and its usable... .

4. In the home stretch, just hope I don't run out of steam (its 1:15 am).

Why the switch

Just curious about why you decided to switch hosting facilities. I have not seen that addressed. I thing it was Steve that said the was some info learned after the fact, and that you switched locations based on that info.

Co-Location Facility Change

We originally selected two sites which were acceptable. Both facilities met our needs, although each had different strengths and weaknesses. I made the decision last week to move to our second choice.

I made this last minute change based on several things, but the primary consideration was the length of the contract required by the hosting facilities. Our original choice would not flex on a three-year term. Our current provider allowed a shorter-term arrangement which allows us to "test" out their ability to serve without the significant risk associated with a long-term contract. Each of the contractors associated with this project advised me to avoid any contractual arrangement longer than 12 months.

So far (less than a week into the arrangement), they are performing satisfactorily. But we will continue to monitor their performance and make changes, if needed.
