Service 4wd Light

My truck has a whopping 1561 miles on it and after I started it yesterday, the service 4wd light came on and stayed on. The truck has never even been put into 4wd, so I am wondering why it needs serviced. I will take the truck into the dealer later this week, but wondered if anyone has experienced the same thing or if anyone has any idea what would trigger the light.

do you runa an edge attitude? or have anything else tapped into the fuse box? I tapped in where edge said to and I imeadiatly got the same warning light. I moved the fuse to the cig lighter and all was well after that... ... ... .

I should have mentioned the truck is entirely stock with the exception of a jake brake added by the dealer. I drove the truck the day before and had no light displayed. After sitting overnight, the light suddenly appeared.

Do you have electronic or manual. If you have electronic engage once every two weeks, this will help to keep the light off.

Strange - I've got the electronic 4x4 and I've never had a service 4x4 light come on - is there one for the '03? I love being able to switch it on and off at traffic lights when it's slick - and I haven't had a bit of trouble like that (knock on wood).

I took the truck into the dealer this morning. As it turned out, there was a malfunction somewhere in the computerized system. They just re-booted the system and cured the problem. By the way, my 4wd is manual, not electronic so I was pretty concerned when I saw the light. I would also mention that the service manager said never to panic when a warning light comes on and stays steady, just continue driving until you reach the nearest dealership. But, if the light comes on and starts blinking, then pull over and call for road side assistance. Despite what he said, I still think I would be worried even if the light remained steady.
