The honey moon is over with my tradesman. My 17 3500 reg cab/long bed/2wd with only 9200 miles gave me a service warning for the brakes with an ABS and brakes light indicator on the dash.
Went to the dealer and the tech put the computer on and he showed me the general electrical failure on the ABS controller and solenoid? module.
They are ordering a new one on warranty, but I am calling this "strike one". On my 96 2500 5.9 12V CTD I refused the "extended warranty". I told the guy if I felt I need it, I would not buy this truck. On my 96, I would have bought a new one if I could. 234,000 trouble free until now with only a bad diverter valve on the injector pump. I will change it soon.

I had to settle for the 2017 3500. I have been hounded endlessly by FCA with solicitations by mail and email to buy their extended warranty. If I get to strike three I'll sell it and go back to the 96.

Happen to anyone else?

If it is the C2200-49 it is an internal module failure. Stuff happens sometimes. If the module is going to fail I would expect it at low time or miles if there was something wrong when the built it. If your expecting the truck to never fail anything for 200k you might as well trade it in now. No one wants to have a problem but I think your expectations are a little high.
Also the 17 has about ten times as much technology as a 20 year old truck.

It's happening a lot on this trip... kicks off cruise control. Gonna turn it in when we get back home in a week or two.

Cheers, Ron

Not sure of connection of cruise control failure to ABS failure?
Friend (former Chrysler/Dodge/Ram dealer lead mechanic) says the Boston area warehouse should have had the ABS controller/valve body to the dealer the next day? Is this ABS failure such a chronic fleet problem and they are "out of stock"? Tomorrow, friday is one week and no parts.

Just received a service satisfaction survey from

Dave, I don't believe I have a cruise control issue, I believe there are certain CEL codes that interrupt some capabilities. Funny how this antilock brake warning appears... it was occurring approx 20 times on the way to Fort Worth, and some while there, but didn't occur at all on the way home. I have to prep the truck to turn in, so likely going to be next week to turn it in.

Let us know how yours turns out and I'll do the same. Good luck.

Cheers, Ron

Friends,

I turned my 5500 in today and while checking in, the service writer read the truck has a bad anti-lock brake pump. Pretty slick. Not sure when I'm getting her back, but my 5-Star is pretty good about turn around maintenance work.

I'll follow up with additional information as it's available.

Cheers, Ron

Got satisfaction survey in email today...second request...I filled it out and told them a few things about my level of satisfaction and 13 days with no parts yet...
I did finally go to use the cruise control yesterday and have it kick off when the antilock service alarm rung.

Yep, it kicks out cruise control AND has annoying ding with flashing warning lights and message in dash display. It went off approximately 30 times driving 25 miles to my dealer.

I hope they have the parts for mine.

Good luck, Ron

Ron, I believe at least on my truck the ABS circuit and cruise control are on the same electrical circuit, my truck is a 2008. I had an interment ABS issue on my truck for a year. I was continuing chasing this issue checking for loose wires an so forth. The system never really had any issues when applying the brakes everything worked as designed. But when towing the 5er and in cruise control, the warning light would come on and ding sometimes but not always The truck would be kicked out of cruise control and I would have to reset the cruise.

My problem turn out to be the RH front wheel BRG hub. This was replaced this year when I had the RH front u-joint replaced along with the HUB, runout on the HUB was bad. No more CEL for the ABS or ding!

Jim,

Copy. With the awesome programming of the engine and the transmission, I use cruise a lot when on open highway towing and solo. Now just the waiting... I typically give them a week if they don't call me if I'm not i need of the truck.

Friday the 18 I finally got the dealer to do the parts change on the ABS. Parts took 14 days to show up. The tech took 4 hours to change it out and bleed all the brakes and clear out the codes. Nice tech, middle age, seems competent. It does seem like a ***** of a job. 68143491AA control & 68347098AB module. Parts guy said paid is around $500 for the pair and it was not one of the more expensive ones. They would NOT sell me the bad one, for me to tear apart and see how it works. FCA contractually insists on it's return ?? failure analysis. Truck is back to normal and it is ANTILOCK brakes (LOL) not antiskid.

Late yesterday, dealer called that parts should be in Monday, so hopefully Tuesday to get my truck back. I'll report everything diagnosed and replaced.

Cheers, Ron

comrade ron - that little bit of time they took to shoot the video goes a long way in my opinion... it sure beats quizzing the service writer for info. heck, he explained everything they did for you in 30 seconds. before you picked it up....very nice touch. cheers, chris

Time for an upgrade?
Running XP today on a PC connected to the Internet is really unsafe.
The doors on your system are not open, they are gone entirely.

(I also loved XP, run it till the support ended and beyond until new programs refused to run on it)

Ron, Is that a California Clean air sticker on the fender?
Video played on Windoze10 and Firefox. Nice service touch!

No, it's a clean idle sticker that comes on all of the 4500 and 5500 C&Cs. I guess it allows idling to run PTO equipment and extended idling. Not sure, to be honest.

EDIT: Upon closer look, it could be a CARB certified clean idle sticker.
