Service Manual

I'm planning on getting a service manual for my truck so I can more confidentally do more of the work myself. I was wondering what the best service manual was. Is the factory Chrysler one the best or is a Chilton's or Haynes the better way to go. The manual must include diesel trucks. I've heard that some don't include diesel info.

I've got both. I recommend you get the factory manual. Is more detailed.

More detailed is an understatement. The factory manual tells you wrench sizes etc. Much better than the Chiltons.

I have a Chiltons and a Chrysler service manual. I like the Chrysler one much better. It is about $80. I would also recommend getting the electrical service manual which is another $10. It tells you how to trace every electrical problem down on our trucks. You can order the manuals online and get them in about a week.



As for the steering gearbox, I am also having a bit of a problem with mine. When I talked to NAPA, it was $300 outright, or $140 with a core. I decided to adjust mine and put a new dust and oil seal in (only $18). You might be suprised how much the Borgeson shaft helps. I was ready to replace everything that dealt with the steering, but the Borgeson really helped. The only reason I am replacing athe seals is because I damaged them when I was removing the roll pin holding the old steering shaft on, so be careful.

Anyone have a lead on the service manuals for a 1990. I contacted Techauthority and they no longer carry the 1990 manual. Also they stated that I need the 1989 diesel supplement in addition to the 1990 manual. does anyone have any more info?

I have to believe that the 89 diesel supplement would be the same as the 90 as the engines are the same. Some minor differences in trucks but the engine is the same.

I'm looking to buy a factory service manual (FSM) for my truck, and have researched a bit at http://www.techauthority.daimlerchrysler.com/ though I will call Faxon to see what they have, once I know better what I need.



TechAuthority lists several volumes which look about right:

Are these the FSMs I want? Particularly, I seek a detailed wiring diagram, since a previous owner has bolluxed up the under-dash wiring...

EBAY!!!

There have been a lot of Dodge truck manuals on EBAY lately. They usually sell for less than the places mentioned above. If anyone is interested I have a 1991 Dodge truck manual and will sell it for $40 or trade for the 1991 diesel supplement.



I am guessing that they did not publish a diesel supplement in 1990 and that is why the recommendation was made to get the 1989.

Those are the ones you want, I'm not sure of the price on Ebay, but Tech-Authority beat the snot out of Faxon. I paid close to $75 for a used 92 manual and I bought the 93 from T-A for $59, live and learn I guess.
