I run a filter as well debating on adding the trans cool cooler from genos they sell em singley now so I could run a filter on one side and a cooler on the other are you running a cooler ?

You sure thats factory?

No 92 was the last year for a factory drain plug which was before dodge used the nv4500 . I said I added a drain plug and I'm going to add one on my 94 as well why this thread is even the 24 valve section I don't know

When I service my NV4500 (99 2500 with 225 k miles) I just pull the floor hump after pulling the shifter then pull the top off the trans and drain using the side cover lower bolt , then pull the remaining oil out with a suction device and tygon tube, possibly flush a little and then pour in GL 4 syntorque or amzoil equiv in the top until runs out filler/check plug, put plug in and add one more quart. Put the top and shifter in and replace floor hump and console and drive for another 50k. I have the FastCooler on the left side also.

What are your trans temps towing ?

I do not have a temp guage in the transmission and with the Fast Cooler on the left side and slightly overfilling (reccommended by most NV4500 users) I find that stopping after long mountain pulls, I can put my hand on the transmission anywhere and it is comfortably warm, not hot. I lost the orig stock NV4500 at about 175K miles due to wrong lube (my bad!! using Amzoil "Severe Gear") not the correct Lube, Needs to be the Castrol Syntorq or a similar lube with GL4 rating read the tag! When that trans went (pulling my 10K Toy Hauler), The transmission was so hot you could not put your hand on it and the shifter would not shift it into any gear, cooled down for about 1 hr and made it home, but transmission was trash. Called Amzoil and discussed that and found out Their "Severe Gear" was not rated to be in that transmission, Got the correct lube and all good to go!

I have looked and there are several out there AMZOIL, of course GM / MOPAR (Castrol) , Redline , and several others all have correct numbers on their specs. I just use Amzoil as I can get it reasonable and delivered to front door.
