I have recently posted how I bought a brand new 05. I never paid attention to the 05 post because I didn't plan on buying one and I was going to wait for an 08 6. 7l. Well, since I have an 05 I have a lot of catching up to do and the search isn't all that quick.

1. Can I turn off the seat belt dinger? I don't remember having to disable the thing on my 03.

2. Is this factory exhaust 4" from the turbo back? I believe it is but haven't gotten under there with calipers . If it is 4" where can I get another Motoblue muffler? I loved the way the 03 sounded with the Motoblue 4" from the turbo back.

3. I don't plan on chipping this truck but I am thinking about a westach 2n1 on the a-pillar but is it really necessary since I am not chipping it and will only pull 7k max with the truck all flat swampland!

4. Besides the door seals anything I need to check out ASAP!

5. Air intake should I get the AFE drop in or the stage 1 or 2 remember no chips on this truck.

Thanks!

1. I plug in my center seat belt to keep the dinger off

2. 4" all the way back, never heard of motoblue. Mine is str8 pipe all the way.

3. All diesels should have a pyro and a boost guage and all ctd's need a fuel pressure guage. Dodge keeps the pressure and the pump a little on the light side.

4. Door seals and reverse light sensor on the 5600 is all I can think of.

Good luck with the 05, I really enjoy mine, just wish I had enough money to buy another one and put it in storage for the future when mine wears out.

Seat belt dinger

You can disable the seatbelt dinger on the '05. The instructions are in your owners manual. They must be followed exactly and it may take a couple of times to get it. I did it on mine, but I remember that it took 3 - 4 tries to get it.

I am very happy with mine and it sounds like you are on track. No chip for mine either. Chips teach some really hard lessons on the 3rd gens.

There is a procedure in your owners manual to turn off the seatbelt dinger. Some have had luck doing it & some have not. I've tried countless times & can't get the darn thing to quit. They can flash the computer at the dealer to turn it off, but I havn't been back to the dealer since I bought mine a year ago. If you don't plan on adding power I would not waste $$$ on a expensive air intake. I swiss cheesed my air box & put in an AFE pro gaurd 7 drop in. Havn't add any issues with my 05 sice I bought it.

I have the MBRP replacement muffler & like it's mellow throaty sound with no drone, alot better than the Banks exhaust I had on my 01.

on edit: I forgot to mention if you have an early 05 & it has the plastic tanks on the innercooler they are prone to poping when under high boost for sustained periods. Guys have blown them on stock trucks while towing & pulling long grades. I wasn't going to wait to see if mine was going to last so I changed it out.

Ditto..... Can't stress gauges enough. I put gauges in @18 miles and for the VERY short time truck was stock(1800 miles or about 2 weeks) I could hit 1250* with 7000# trailer..... EASILY. My seats start getting creases past 1150* :-laf :-laf

The 05's can handle the higher temps. I hit 1500degrees regularly. I'm not talking about holding that temp for long periods of time... just a few seconds. It won't hurt a thing. I'm sure others will chime in... . :)

Your rig is not stock! Mine is and the highest temps I have seen, while towing my 12000lb 5th wheel, is about 1250. that being said, gauges come in handy to let you know if you have a developing problem. Even with the fuel pump now in the tank, it's nice to see a steady 8-9lbs fuel pressure. The dual boost/egt gauge is a good indicator of other problems (i. e. plugged up air filter, boost leak, injector failure, etc. )... ;)

My stock 05 will hit 1500 pulling just 8000 lbs, up a hill top speed 50.

My 01 pulling 12000lbs up the same hill will only hit 1200, with a speed of 65 mph.

These new trucks run very HOT!!!. The 05 now has no cat, a Mbrp muffler and a AFE stage one filter. These changes have dropped EGTs about 150. I have heard 1500 is ok for a short time. I try to keep mine down to 1350.

This is a prime example of INTERNET MYTH and someone who belives it :D

FYI when I talk temps I AM talking extended time(more than a few seconds ) cause that is the real world. You can't tow anything very far in "just a few seconds" :-laf :-laf

Point is the new trucks run hotter than the older ones... . They have to they come stock with more HP than some modified older ones have... .

Me thinks you have issues. My 05 will hit 1400 degrees, but that was pushing it really hard over a couple climbs going thru Colorado.

I have gone Reno several times and pull that grade with 8k trailer at 70mph in 6th gear and I'm hitting 1200-1300 degrees.

How steep a grade are you talking about because the speed you're carrying in your 05 seems low for the weight you're carrying.

Fuel tank vents on the top of the tank. These were left open on most trucks, reported to suck in water. a few feet of 1/4" fuel line can solve this.

The hill is Hwy 160 from Las Vegas to Pahrump. I still have half the go pedal left. 70 or 75 mph would not be a problem if I did not know my EGTs.

My sig explains what the truck has and the first thing I did was put in a Airraid dropin filter and MIT.

The second thing I had done was Issopro pyro and boost gauge.

I have had the pyro get into the 1100 range but it wasnt there for long.

Other than that the truck is stock.

I do plan on a transmission temp gauge and fuel pressure gauges soon.

Other than that I have had no probs with the truck.
