Just finished installing westach fp guage from Jeno's. Idle 8psi wot about 5psi. Truck runs good, no complaints. Do I have a problem? My next project is 4" exhaust and edge EZ or comp. I would like to change injectors to dd2's or? when I get trans work done hopefully next summer. I don't want to drag race but would like to pull my Rv (9K) thru hills and mtns easily. Have seen many posts with ez & ddII's. Is this good combination for what I'd like to do or should I be looking at Edge comp. I would like to put egde on before trans work to get a feel for how it performs.

Would appreciate any suggestions and would like to put fp concerns behind me so I can move to other projects with confidence. It seems to me as long as I have a positive ,none zero. reading the lp must be working. Is there a cooling concern if psi is not high enough? Should I be looking to install newest lift pump from cummins? people seem to be have good luck with it.

Sorry for long post but would appreciate help in clarifying the se issues and firming my direction for future projects.

Your lift pump is getting weak.

It should be 13-15psi @ idle and 10psi WOT and 7psi continuous-WOT.

If you add a Comp and injectors then you need a pusher set up.

EDGE

I inquired about putting in an Edge EZ prior to performing trans upgrade & the general consensus was to do the trans upgrade prior to the fueling box or it may push the trans over the edge & into an early grave...

Good luck on whatever you decide.

Keep an eye on the fuel pressure. You numbers are low. DC used to say you had to have more than 10psi at idle. I am one of those lucky ones that had to have his lift pump replaces at under 10K miles. My pump would make less pressure when the fuel had gotten warm from recirc from the VP44 and when I was at 1/4 or less. After several months of watching a decline in pressure I finally took it in as it read 0 psi when at 70 mph unloaded on flat terrain. DC used my FP gauge for proof of bad pressures.

As long as you have a positive head pressure you should not notice any power losses. The way luck has it you will go to 0 psi when you are 500 miles from home.

Best of luck to you.

What to do.....

If I were you, first things first. Before bombing, I would permanently fix the stock fuel delivery system. Your pressures are low, and the pump is weak. You can either keep throwing crappy OEM pumps at it and always worry, or you can fix it right and be done with it.

Bite the bullet and get the PE4200 pump setup from Advanced Diesel (www.smokindiesel.com). The stock system is flawed in design AND execution, so I would scrap it and go with a retrofit. Up to you whether to lose the stock LP or not after putting in the pusher.

From what I have seen, EZ + DD2s or DD3s is a good setup. Comp is great box, but a little harder on injection pump.

Personally, I am headed to EZ+DD3s. That, and a new clutch a half mile later.

Gotta make the truck reliable before you bomb.....
