1995 5 spd. Read some interesting stuff in the archives. I was informed that if one puts larger tires ( from 245 to 285) I could take the truck to the dealer and they would recalibrate the speedo. I went there today and was told that the truck is to old and they couldn't do it. Said I would have to replace the gear driven sender in the trans. If that sounds right where can I get a sender that will match the larger tires?

Also checked on an overflow valve and the dealer wants $159. 00. Can I get one from some other place?

In my service manual it says to use 'special tool # so and so'. Where can one buy these special tools?

Thanks for any assistance. Tom/Idaho

There is a bunch on here that has the overflow valve to you for about $50

The speedo gear thing is correct. . The part number for the gear you will need is

520676-28

The last two digits indicate the number of teeth on the gear... Trucks with 245's came with 31 teeth. 28 should get you close.

Hope that's what you need.

Also, when you install the gear, the sensor has four different positions that range for different numbers of teeth.

I forgot how it's divided up, but you will need to turn the side of the speed sensor with the number range of your gear to the top when you install it.

The numbers are around the outside of the sensor in sets like 31-29, 28-26

Thats all granted yours works like the 96 models.

98. 5-up 24 valves had the electronic sender in the rear end, my bro had his re-calibrated for bigger tires in his 02' at the dealer for like $60. 12 valves are different.

I got my overflow valve from Piers diesel for $60 or something like that. You do not need anything other than a 3/4'' wrench to change the overflow valve. Took me about 2 minutes to change it.
