hi, guys

where in the san francisco bay area can i get 19. 5 inch tires a good balance, and a good alignment? i think the used ricksons i just got are a little out of balance and your local tire store won't attack a problem on 19. 5 inch wheels.

thanks in advance,

peter

BIIIIGGG TIRES

Any big rig repair facility can handle your puny, pekid, lightweight little tire install. Good luck when you blow a tire heading for Fresno, or the Sierras. Best you carry a size large breaker bar, and a short, (4') cheater to change a flat... ..... Who's your chiropractor?

Visit: http://www.gsp9700.com/pub/search/findgsp9700.cfm to locate nearby shops that have the Hunter 9700 OEM matching system (the machine Dan and Matt use at their shop in Sparks). They should be able to match the hi/lo spots of the tire and wheel, then balance them. And don't be afraid to go right back to the shop if you detect the same or new bouncing of tires.

Alignment? You're almost on your own. There was a recent thread about alignments in which someone re-submitteded Brent's post containing his personal favorite alignment settings for our Ram pickups. I'm bringing the post with me to the shop tomorrow and delicately ask the owner what he thinks - his alignment of my pickup wasn't quite close enough, so he's going to try again.

hey, neal

can you post a link to the alignment thread? i did a few searches into the night last night and couldn't come up with anything.

thanks,

peter

I've had my truck (with the Rickson 19. 5's on it) aligned by Concord Safety Center. They're right off of Monument Blvd down a side street, the name of which I don't recall... they're in Yahoo Yellow Pages.

I also was able to get my '96 aligned (which also had the Ricksons) at Winston Tire, but Concord Safety has done a far, far better job.

As for mounting and balancing, I second the suggestion about the match mounting setup. That's how Rickson mounts the tires, and they recommend sticking with it. They said if you should have to have a tire repaired and the shop doesn't do match mounting, that they should mark the tire and wheel so they can re-mount the tire in the exact same place as before.

thanks, rob, i'll check them out. the nearest machine that neal recommends is in fairfield/vacaville... quite a ways away, but i'd like to get rid of that wheel hop, slight as it may be, which is, in my nightmares, damaging the suspension/steering components.

i'm really surprised there isn't anything in sf or sj.

thanks guys. anyone else have any ideas or suggestions?

Well, there's a match-mounting machine at the Porsche dealer in Walnut Creek, but somehow I have a feeling they're gonna just stare blankly at you when you ask about getting 19. 5" truck tires worked on. :)

BTW, what tires do you have on yours? Mine are the General LMT-400 ones that were take-offs from the Ford F450. They're okay, but they aren't M+S rated.

Rob

rob, don't challenge me like that!! i haven't seen a gap mouthed glassy eyed stare in a long time. :D might be worth the trip.

lessee... i think i've got the 8R Michelin XZA. not snow rated. i was told that the tires had 40kmi on them. and i'll tell ya... . LOTS of meat left. the tires are just a little too narrow for my truck as i have flares on my truck. the LMT has a similar tread... maybe a little more dirt aggressive and, i think, wider. they, the LMTs, are not a bad way to go. prolly really good on dirt fire roads, not so on snow i'll bet. i like the way the truck handles much more now. however the ride is a little rougher. i don't mind, the girlfriend now has another reason to dislike my truck. too darn bad... . i love olga more and more every day!!
